Advantages: You can get a drink
Disadvantages: You have to drink it in Hertford
The state of the pubs and barsin Hertford is quite dire. Maybe its the people who drink in Hertford or maybe its the town itself, but generally its is a horrible place.
The Stonehouse is over crowded and expensive, boasting a tiny dance floor where you have to pack in like sardines to dance.
The Blackbirds used to be quite a good pub but it has turned into a bit f a scummy place, where you are forced to que to get in to nasty little pub and if you smoke (which a large portion of society do) you have to pack into a tiny little court yard to have a cigarette, also if you don't go to the Blackbirds or the Stonehouse on the student night (Thursday), its can be very expensive.
Weatherspoons is good value for money and a good space to drink, however it can get quite crowded and they generally do not have enough staff to cope, so you have to wait for a long time to get served.
There are loads more pubs and bars, like Elberts or Bar Rouge,(which are over crowded and expensive too) however these are the most visited.
There are a few nice places to drink in though. The White Horse Pub, by the castle is a fantastic pub with a great selection of ales and a really warm and home like feel to it.
The Old Barge down by the river is a nice pub, expensive, but nice, with a really good quiz on Sunday nights.
If you like a good night out somewhere, don't go to Hertford!
Summary: A few gems in the dirt, but overall not a good place.
