Advantages: Great food, great ales
Disadvantages: Packed with business types most evenings
The Ostrich in Colnbrook - England's 3rd oldest inn, dating back to 1106. Lovingly restored oak beams outside and in - although the Olde Worlde (tm) language everywhere gets tedious - and lots of historical items festoon the interior.
Now a word of warning - this place is very popular. An endless stream of business types bored with hotel food come here every night, and added to the locals, it's a jam at most times. Come on a Sunday evening though, and you're rewarded with a quiet relaxed meal and drinks, served by friendly bar staff, and by "almost Outer London" prices, very reasonable on the wallet.
As our local, I and my partner often go there with friends or relatives - and they always tell us how they enjoyed the ambience and the food.
There's a wide selection of all types of starter, main and dessert courses, but if you want a good hearty meal go for the Steaks - which come in Porterhouse, rib-eye or fillet varieties. Last but not least the speciality - The Ostrich Grill, yes ostrich. Not tried it yet but I will!
Overall this is a very good pub, serving great food, and good drink - oh yes, at least two real ales always on tap - and it's quite easy to get to - sandwiched between the M25, M4 and A4, just on the edge of Slough.
Come feast!
