If you're ever in this part of Leicestershire, you could do a lot worse than seek out the Black Swan in Shepshed. This old-fashioned inn is on Loughborough Road, opposite Shepshed Dynamo FC's ground on Butthole Lane. Don't let the name put you off, though, this is a friendly, tidy pub with a wide range of real ales and cheap, tasty pub food. There is a large car park, a good job since you will probably have to drive here if you are thinking of visiting.

The menu consists mainly of standard pub meals such as fish and chips, pie and chips and the like, as well as a wide range of sandwiches. Most food costs well under a fiver and is good value rather than cheap and nasty. The service is friendly and reasonably prompt as well. Four or five real ales were available on my visit, including one from Greene King (IPA I think) which was well kept.

I visited in early January this year, and will definitely go back in the future.
