If you happen to be in Limavady I thoroughly recommend this pub for a pint.

Frank Owens is a small bar in the heart of Limavady, County Derry/Londonderry on Main Street. It was first established in 1852 when it was owned by the McCartneys and was complete with thatched roof. In 1960 the bar came to be in the Owens family, run by the legendary Frank, and his two sons, Gary and Damien, however the thatch roof is no more.

The slogan of Franks is, "The truth comes out, when the spirit goes in." The mainstay of the pub is the front wooden bar with three rooms extending off a corridor leading to the toilets at the back. It looks like someone's house complete with fires in two of the room, a welcome addition to a winters night. The walls are festooned with old pictures, although the new additions of LCD Tv's have been a shock to the local contingent.

It is not trying to be anything other than a good old fashioned bar so if you are looking for fancy meals or high decor, you'll not get it. If you are looking to enjoy the craic of a good conversation then its the place to go. Be warned though at weekends the bar gets busy and during the Jazz and blues expect a queue at the toilets. They have a website www.frankowens.com but i'm not sure how up to date it is.

Owens has undergone some expansion in recent years under Gary Owens to include a marquee out the back and a second bar. This was built due to the sheer number of people that flock to Limavady for the annual Jazz and Blues Festival that takes place every June of which Frank Owens is a main attraction.

It is said that it serves one of the best pints of Guinness in Ireland and whenever I have friends to stay I always take them for a drink and it never fails to delight. Ideally located on the road that takes you between the scenic north coast and Derry/Londonderry be sure to stop in for a pint.
