Advantages: something for all the family
Disadvantages: none
There are many pubs in Lechlade but I think the Riverside is by far the best.If you like a pub that is by the Riverside, cheap and cheerful then this is the pub for you. The pub itself is on the banks of the River Thames at Lechlade. It has a friendly landlord, a freehouse, that does breakfasts and meals up to 10pm 7 days a week and Live music on a Thursday. For £5 you can get a good meal. Children and dogs are more than welcome with plenty to keep all occupied. There are plenty of seats inside the pub. Look out for the great statues of theBlues Brothers. A local non alcoholic drink in this part of the Country is called a "Henry". I have never discovered why it is so called so if you know why please email me. The drink is great especially for a hot summers day. It is half Britvic orange and half lemonade. It is even suitable for the children to drink if they dont want a coke. In the grounds of the pub you have quite good parking but it does get packed and full, so park in Lechlade town about 5 minutes walk from the pub itself. There is a shop for icecream and a lot of nic-naks. You may hire a bicycle but I dont know for how much. They do have a lot of bikes for hire though. You may also hire rowing boats cheaply. If you take your drink outside there are tables and you overlook the River Thames, and can watch the boats, ducks, swans and general riverside fun. Also you can be sure someone on a hot summers day will be on ha'penny bridge and will jump off into the Thames below - usually fully clothed! It does take a lot of guts to do this and is frowned at but "visitors" love to see it and every local youngster for miles around will jump off it sometime in their lifetime! (Leaving poor Mum a nervous wreck if she watches and worse when they come home and tell you they have jumped off ha'penny bridge!) You may order meals at the bar and
they will give you a number and call that number when ready and take the meal to you. This can take a while in the high season but you will find that the bar staff when they take your order will tell you roughly the waiting time. Meals are worth the wait though and there is always something to look at and watch while waiting so its not a boring wait!
