“ Many locations throughout the UK. Serving pub food, burgers and of course beer. „
Scream in Lincoln has all a normal Scream pub has to offer downstairs, but also a great nightclub upstairs, most popular amongst students for it's indie music and cheap drinks! It's only a small club, but it fills up well and there is a huge dancefloor!
Downstairs the pub area is more relaxed, offering food in the daytime, poole tables etc. On sundays there is a pub quiz (if they still run it) often attended by students which is really great fun! The prizes are excellent, and whilst living in lincoln for uni my housemates and I won numerous bottles of champagne, a white water rafting trip, a game cube and more just from attending the weekly pub quiz at Scream!
Many of the staff are students and there is an overall friendly student vibe. If you live in the student accomodation it is but a stumble from your bed! As most nightclubs the floor is pretty sticky.
Scream was an essential part of Lincoln nightlife whilst I was at uni, so definately worth a visit! My friends and I can often be found back there on our 'uni reunions'.
Scream pubs are undoubtedly my favourite pubs. At university in Derby the pub THE FRIARY was the number one haunt for students before a night out, or watching football and event to grab a cheap pub dinner. The atmosphere in scream pubs is cosy and warm, with couches and low lighting, but they also all have poole tables and an updated juke box, so constantly playing good music at customers request.
The drinks in scream pubs are relatively cheap, and on the purchase of a £1 yellow card, for students you get a further 25% of certain drinks. The menu is varied and also affordable, there are two for £5.95 meal deals, and also the famous curry and a burger £3.50 or curry and a pint £3.50, which is very handy when at university.
Another great deal with scream pubs is that they have pound a pint nights weekly, you'll find it on a Monday at the Friary in Derby, and a Tuesday at the Junction in Harrow. Both brilliant scream joints. These pubs have a great atmosphere both on weekend and week nights sow whether your looking for a night on it, or a quiet drink with work mates scream pubs are a great place to go!
Scream bars are commonly known as student bars but they are nicer than your average student pub. I have taken my parents here for a bit to eat when they have come to visit twice now and they have been impressed on both occassions. They are commonly found in university cities and I know of at least 3 in Glasgow and 1 in St Andrews.
The bars serve cheap drinks (not wetherspoons cheap, but far cheaper than a bar) and great value for money food. They offer curry and a pint and burger and a pint for less than £5 from 3pm onwards.
The drinks offers are always good and you can get pitchers of cocktails for around £10. They have all the usual drinks on offer as well as a variety of beers and ciders such as the different flavoured fruit ciders (apple, strawberry and my personal favourite pear).
There food always tastes very fresh and they serve some great salads such as Strawberry and Mango salad - delicious on a summer's day. I love their veg lasagne served with garlice bread.
Their burgers are great quality too and come served with chips. There are a variety of burgers to choose from including regular, cheese, salsa burger, chicken, 3 bean burger and many others. You can upgrade to a Scream burger for only £2 more and it's worth if you fancy a really huge burger.
3 of us visited here a couple of weeks ago and had 2 burgers, a veg lasagne and 3 drinks for a total of £17 - great value for money.
The pubs are often filled with young guys at the weekend as Scream bars usually show whatever football or rugy is on that day.
I would highly reccommend visiting these bars if there are any near you.
I visit our local Scream Pub, The Kingston Mill (funnily enough in Kingston) regularly. It's our usual haunt before hitting the clubs at the weekend or for some pub grub. The Mill, like the other Screams I've visited are generally student drinking grounds. This is because the music is good and the drinks and food are cheap.
There's over 60 Screams Pubs in the UK, mainly in University towns. The prices are reasonable to start with but they also have a loyalty card scheme, you can buy a 'yellow card' from the pubs for £1 and this gives you further discount. This used to be available to all, but now they only issue them with a student card.
The food menu is extensive but basic pub food, nothing too fancy. Sandwiches and salads, all day breakfasts, jacket potatoes are all reasonably priced. A selection of mains including lasagne, fish and chips and steak are 2 for £5.95. The reason we go there though is for their great burger deals. A standard burger chips and a beer is £3.50. The burgers in this offer are fairly small but you can upgradge to the 'Scream burger' for £2 more. This comes with everything and is a lot bigger. I usually struggle to finish. The food is good quality and the portions are generous. Great value for the price of a Maccy D's!
The atmosphere during the day is chilled, and usually quite quiet during the week. Evenings and weekends it's busy, but the Mill always seems to be well staffed and you don't wait too long to be served.
Entertainment is pretty good too. Once a week they have a comedy night, and DJs are in on a Saturday night. A word of warning if you do not like football, like me! They show all the big matches and it gets packed, and rowdy. I've not experienced any trouble though, the places seem to attract the right sort of crowd. If we're in on a quiet night, the juke box keeps us entertained.
Overall, I think Screams are one of the best pub chains in the country. Less tarty that Yate's and O'Neills and much better atmosphere and quality of food than Wetherspoons. Not for everyone, I think they are generally for the younger crowd, and the footie fans on a Saturday. Students can't go wrong!
Being a student, and knowing the monetary hardship this can bring, I am always happy to find a Scream Pub whenever I go out. Scream Pubs offer wonderful deals on both food and drink, and welcome the customer with their wonderful decoration and courteous staff.
With the economy as it is, many people are detered from going out because they want to save money, and feel it frivolous to spend money in pubs when they could be saving. However, these people are in luck. Scream Pubs are excellent sources for cheap food, cheap drink, and excellent entertainment. There are numerous meal deals - including the Scream Burger and a pint for £5.50 (approx), Curry and a pint for £3.50, and two meals for £5.95 (approx) - each of which saves the customer considerable money. Both the food and drink are of a high quality, and the portions will satisfy most appetites. The range of food and drink is also very impressive, with menu choices for everyone and anyone - there are several vegetarian options available.
The service is usually excellent, and meals and drinks are served in a prompt and professional manner. The staff are both polite and helpful, offering suggestions on food and drink when asked.
The decor of Scream Pubs is also a factor which will draw you back time and time again. Scream Pubs are decorated in a modern style designed for comfort and relaxation; most are littered with soft sofas and comfy chairs, as well as the obligatory dining tables. Scream Pubs are very inviting; the only problem being that you may not want to leave, as you are so comfortable in the home like atmosphere.
For sports fans there are live showings of sporting events, including the Premier League, Champions League, and National Rugby matches. There are multiple screens in each pub (many of which are extremely large), allowing anyone the ablility to see a screen and enjoy the game.
Each pub has at least one pool table for customers, and many have games (questions and answers), arcade and fruit machines to entertain while you are waiting for your meal. Many of the pubs offer themed nights - karaoke, pound a pint, etc - that will have great offers and lots of fun. There are also cash machines in each pub; although these, unfortunately, charge for cash withdrawals (usually upwards of £1.50 ap.).
While Scream Pubs tend to appeal to a more youthful and student base, anyone is welcome - I have often noticed older couples tucking into a Scream Burger.
Ultimately, Scream Pubs are excellent value for money, and offer a wide and enjoyable range of foods and drinks, and entertainment to go with them.
