Advantages: Great prices and good food and service. Atmosphere

Disadvantages: none

I visit our local Scream Pub, The Kingston Mill (funnily enough in Kingston) regularly. It's our usual haunt before hitting the clubs at the weekend or for some pub grub. The Mill, like the other Screams I've visited are generally student drinking grounds. This is because the music is good and the drinks and food are cheap.

There's over 60 Screams Pubs in the UK, mainly in University towns. The prices are reasonable to start with but they also have a loyalty card scheme, you can buy a 'yellow card' from the pubs for £1 and this gives you further discount. This used to be available to all, but now they only issue them with a student card.

The food menu is extensive but basic pub food, nothing too fancy. Sandwiches and salads, all day breakfasts, jacket potatoes are all reasonably priced. A selection of mains including lasagne, fish and chips and steak are 2 for £5.95. The reason we go there though is for their great burger deals. A standard burger chips and a beer is £3.50. The burgers in this offer are fairly small but you can upgradge to the 'Scream burger' for £2 more. This comes with everything and is a lot bigger. I usually struggle to finish. The food is good quality and the portions are generous. Great value for the price of a Maccy D's!

The atmosphere during the day is chilled, and usually quite quiet during the week. Evenings and weekends it's busy, but the Mill always seems to be well staffed and you don't wait too long to be served.

Entertainment is pretty good too. Once a week they have a comedy night, and DJs are in on a Saturday night. A word of warning if you do not like football, like me! They show all the big matches and it gets packed, and rowdy. I've not experienced any trouble though, the places seem to attract the right sort of crowd. If we're in on a quiet night, the juke box keeps us entertained.

Overall, I think Screams are one of the best pub chains in the country. Less tarty that Yate's and O'Neills and much better atmosphere and quality of food than Wetherspoons. Not for everyone, I think they are generally for the younger crowd, and the footie fans on a Saturday. Students can't go wrong!

Summary: Better than Wetherspoons

Heh, wish I wasn't too old for this pub (maybe I'll try it on a quiet day). Great review, you really painted the picture :)
