Advantages: Cheap, good quality food
Disadvantages: Can be very busy at weekends
Scream bars are commonly known as student bars but they are nicer than your average student pub. I have taken my parents here for a bit to eat when they have come to visit twice now and they have been impressed on both occassions. They are commonly found in university cities and I know of at least 3 in Glasgow and 1 in St Andrews.
The bars serve cheap drinks (not wetherspoons cheap, but far cheaper than a bar) and great value for money food. They offer curry and a pint and burger and a pint for less than £5 from 3pm onwards.
The drinks offers are always good and you can get pitchers of cocktails for around £10. They have all the usual drinks on offer as well as a variety of beers and ciders such as the different flavoured fruit ciders (apple, strawberry and my personal favourite pear).
There food always tastes very fresh and they serve some great salads such as Strawberry and Mango salad - delicious on a summer's day. I love their veg lasagne served with garlice bread.
Their burgers are great quality too and come served with chips. There are a variety of burgers to choose from including regular, cheese, salsa burger, chicken, 3 bean burger and many others. You can upgrade to a Scream burger for only £2 more and it's worth if you fancy a really huge burger.
3 of us visited here a couple of weeks ago and had 2 burgers, a veg lasagne and 3 drinks for a total of £17 - great value for money.
The pubs are often filled with young guys at the weekend as Scream bars usually show whatever football or rugy is on that day.
I would highly reccommend visiting these bars if there are any near you.
Summary: Great pub food, much better than Wetherspoons
