Advantages: Pretty pub, Excellent food, Well-known landmark

Disadvantages: Can be very busy and cramped

"The Sloop Inn" is the oldest pub in St.Ives circa 1312, and some would say the best also. It is certainly the most well known of st.Ives pubs. It is situated on the seafront (The Wharf), and is a tiny building from the front, painted white with black window frames and doors. It has a beautiful painted pub sign on the front and in the summer has colourful flowers in hanging baskets and window boxes. To look at it with your own eyes visit www.sloop-inn.co.uk.

Inside, the pub has low beamed ceilings and slate floors. Pictures from local artists can be seen on the dark wood walls.

They have a wide selection of food of excellent quality - I would highly recomend the fresh fish and shellfish dishes. It is a very popular restaurant in the summer and it is often difficult to find a place to sit down for a meal. They also serve a good range of ales, wines and spirits.

You can also stay at The Sloop as it has rooms above the bars - most with harbour views. They are apparently sound insulated so you don't have to endure the noise below!!

I have never stayed overnight at The Sloop, but I have been to the pub area many times and I love it there. It is a lovely old Cornish pub, unspoilt by tourism and mod-cons. It's position is perfect being right on the sea-front, and in the summer it's visitors spread out onto the road and seafront itself. It is a highly popular pub and in the summer it is absoulutely packed to the rafters! But if visting St.Ives you must visit it, as it is such an important St.Ives landmark - many artists focus on it in their work.

It is also worth a visit in the winter when it is free from tourists. The open fire makes it a very homely place, and you can hear the banter of real local people!! It has a very different feel in the winter.

Yep, in total agreement. I know a couple who stayed there, and I didn't hear a bad word said about it, in fact we were almost arguing which of us had the better accomodation! Great op, great place, Piph {:0)
