Advantages: Looks good
Disadvantages: bad food and expensive drinks
We have just had a Springbok open in our town and as with all things new you have to try them. Well, we won’t be trying it again! First thing you notice when you walk in is the huge amount of men, this is not unusual in Newquay, most places have more men than women, but this was ALL men. I don’t know why??? This in itself is not a bad thing, in fact I thought that it was quite a good thing. The place looked good. It was done out in wood, had two floors, well, one floor and a big balcony thing. The tables were at the edge of the room so that there was room to dance in the middle. Good so far? We ordered our meals, food on the menu was quite cheap. We did have a vegetarian with us and she didn’t have a great deal of choice, salad or scampi. You have to order and pay for your food at the bar before you get it which is fair enough. Because the place was new I assume that they hadn’t had time to train the staff yet. It took ages to serve us all, he only had to push a few buttons on the till!! There were ten of us. When the food was served the first person (which happened to be me) had finished eating by the time the fifth person got his food. Starters were brought out after the main course, cold. Apart from the salad (!!??) none of the food was cooked. My microwave heated chicken meal had ice in the middle of it and well done steaks were red in the middle. None of it tasted particularly nice and I don’t think that one of us enjoyed the meal. Apart from that it’s one of the most expensive places in the down to buy a drink. The toilets are impossible to find. I only found one lot of mens and one lot of womens, bearing in mind you can fit 800 people in this place. As Newquay is a tourist town most people will only be going in there the once anyway. I don’t think we will be making a future visit and many other people who I have spoken to won’t be either after the
ir own experiences. I think they may have a shock when winter comes and there are no tourists around. Local people already know better.
