Advantages: Friendly, Pool (50p)/Table football (free), lively

Disadvantages: A bit shabby, Toilets are awful, Can get very loud/crowded

I thought the only pub I would ever find that served bottled budvar would be my uni bar, i was fortunately wrong! There is a good selection of beers and lagers apart from budvar here though, as well as cider and alsopops for the less discerning drinker.

The appletree shies away from any pretensions to being a trendy pu, so it's a little rubby, and, being in Lowesmoor can tend to attract a different clientele than "RSVP", but in my opinion, this is all for the better! The slightly shabby decor gives it character, as well as a better atmosphere due to the people there being there mainly to drink and listen to music, rather than pick up girls and vomit.

The upstairs music venue is good, showcasing local bands at earsplitting volume, with a snack vending machine en-route, what could be more useful?. When it isn't being used by bands though, it doubles a pool room, which can be nice to get away from the throng downstairs.

The star of the whole pub mind you (if you don't count the suteness of the age-old monopoly quiz machine) has got to be the old style football table. There's not glass in the top, the players have arms and legs (well, they all USED to anyway!) and best of all, its free! Many an hour i have whiled away tucked into the little cubbyhole containing the football table and a couple of sofas, getting my ass kicked and succumbing to the intoxicating effects of budvar - it's like being a student again, hurrah!

All in all then, a throughly decent pu. Prices aren't high, the staff are friendly, and while it might not be the most stylish place to be seen in (I'm not even going to MENTION the disgustingness of the toilets!) it's a bloody good laugh!
