Advantages: Location is fab!
Disadvantages: Food not amazing!
The barley mow is situated close to Stafford town centre although don't try walking there from the town as it will take you a while. It is right by Shugborough hall and a beautiful area of Cannock chase which makes it very popular with walkers. It's address is as follows:
Main road, Milford, Stafford, st17 0uw.
It is easy to spot and is directly over looking Milford common so it has a real beauty spot. The are plenty of car parking spaces situated to the right and we have never had a problem parking even on one bank holiday when the place was packed.
Now the barley mow is a pub and kind of appears to be like a harvester, beef eater type place. It is very clean looking and the huge gold letters outside saying barley mow will certainly tempt you in. In the restaurant there is ample seating all around including a rather large beer garden at the rear which is nice on a hot day. We have never had an issue getting a table even when we needed them to accommodate ten adults and six babies. They gave us a lovely cozy corner at the back which was perfect.
The menu has all of your normal pub grub such as burgers, curry, lasagne, gammon and all at decent prices around the £6 to 9 mark so what you would expect really. They also do a few other things such as lemon chicken which I had and then Sunday roasts are always a popular choice. For desserts again you have standard choices such as chocolate cake, ice cream, crumble etc... Drinks are all once more standard pub drinks. The staff are very friendly though and will always try to get you what you want.
Now my only issue with the barley mow is that the food doesn't exactly meet my expectations. You can tell they must buy in bulk and some choices are really not nice. I once had a curry and it tasted just like it had come from a can and the chicken was not the nicest at all. My husband on our second visit had a chicken pie which he thought tasted wrong however our friend liked it.
The atmosphere is great in here though and with the choice, prices and nice location this is why we have been back here even though it is not our favourite place to eat at all.
I have to only I've it three stars though as the food really does let it down. It just needs to taste fresher and liked a bit morpe effort has been put into it and I would happily up my star rating.
