Advantages: Low cost food, delicious, reasonable prices

Disadvantages: Can get very busy, difficult to get a sear.

In my bid to see more in the UK this year, I started in a good place. A pub. On a recent visit to my friend who currently lives in Peterborough we visited a few bars and The Brewery Tap was by far my favourite.

The Brewery Tap opened in 1988 and is fairly deceptive in how big it actually is. The pub has a great open plan space with plenty of seating area on the first floor. The ground floor is where the bar is located and also the restaurant; it is a mixture of comfortable seating and traditional dining seating.
The bar covers a great deal of space and behind the bar you can see the high level windows where you can witness the chef’s preparing your food, and towards the end of the bar is a vast glass wall which shields the brewery that produces the award winning Oakham Ales.

The Brewery Tap offers a wide range of products at reasonable prices a round for 4 people cost just over £6.00 for 2 pints of beer and 2 diet cokes which is pretty reasonable as far as pubs go in city centre’s.
There are a great range of ales on offer including guest beers from around the country as well as a great stocked bar of Belgian beer.
If like me you are not into beer/lager they also stock a wide range of alco-pops, wines, spirits and soft drinks.

My partner opted to have a pint of JHB the Champion Beer of Britain in 2001, he said it was a nice pint served just below room temperature, and was a nice smooth drink. Also offered is Bishops Farewell and White Dwarf.

The pub was not particularly busy when we arrived but there was a fair crowd, we went up to the first floor to find a table and found that a lot of them had been reserved so we struggled to find somewhere to sit, my friend went to the bar to ask if we could have a table as we wouldn’t be long and they were quite happy to set us up with a table.
The furniture was wooden and looked fairly worn but this suited the theme of the building and was still fairly comfortable. We looked over the menus and picked what we wanted and then proceeded to place an order.
Ordering was similar to Wetherspoon pubs whereby you have a table number and you are required to order at the bar and then the food is brought up to your table.

We had decided to eat at this pub as it offered pretty good value for money in terms of lunch, I have to admit that I was a bit wary at first as they only offer Thai Cuisine, however we ordered from the lunchtime menu and I opted for the Chicken Satay and Ciabatta served with Thai Fires at £4.59 and the portions were certainly not light! The food was served hot and was extremely tasty and convinced me to definitely opt for Thai food when the option next arises! My partner opted for the Stir-Fried Beef in Oyster Sauce and Ciabatta with Thai Fries again priced at £4.59.
We were asked if we required any condiments to accompany our meal and we opted for som Thai Chilli sauce which was quickly brought up to our table by the waiter.

The food was served piping hot and was delicious, the ciabatta was very lightly toasted and the Chicken Satay had been served on top of one half of the ciabatta and the salad on the other half, there was a generous portion of Thai Fries and I found it a little too much to eat it all but it was certainly good value for money and the taste was out of this world.

The food had arrived pretty quickly after continuing a short conversation with my friends the food had arrive piping hot it was delicious!
Food is served 12 noon til 2.30pm Sundays to Thursdays and Saturday and Sundays food is served 12 noon to 10.30pm and I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

The atmosphere is great in this pub as it caters for all ages and despite there being no music during the day it is a great location in the evening with a large screen for live football and also live DJ’s and bands on the weekend.

Definitely an ideal starting point for a night out or for a snack during a busy day shopping!!

Summary: An ideal eatery and great to catch up with old friends.
