The Bucket & Spade (Weston-Super-Mare)
Advantages: Great, reasonable priced food, good selection of drinks
Disadvantages: Very noisy and busy
When it comes to having a drink and a bite to eat out its something that myself and my boyfriend love to do. We have a long distance relationship with me living an Weston Super Mare so when he comes down we usually pop out and eat to save me from cooking and to have some quality time together.
This pub isn't far from where I live and its one that since my first visit I have frequented often as the pub stocks a variety of drinks (including guest ales) and has a huge menu with plenty of special offers on...oh and lets not forget the Sunday carvery which I have eaten for the past 6 weeks in there and simply love and think is excellent value for money!

The Pub Itself:
The pub is large, spacious and open plan with dark tables and dark decor and carpeting throughout and a wee bit dingy really. There is a huge children's indoor play area next door but I have never been in there but through the window it looks excellent but I am reviewing the pub only as I can't vouch for that at all! There are lots of doors to get in and out of the building and lots of benches outside though no warm smoking area is provided or shelter for us smokers.
This is known as a 2 for 1 style eatery really though you don't have to eat here and you don't have to eat a 2 for 1 offering of course if you don't want to.
Lets start with the drinks. The bar is well stocked, clean and the staff are in dark uniform and the drinks served are the usual Amstel, Becks Vier, Fosters, Stella, Tetley Smooth, Guinness, Strongbow Cider with guest ales aplenty, wines and of course speciality teas and a range of coffees and cider being this is Somerset! Glasses are clean though tables are never cleaned down and emptied quick enough and in my opinion there is never enough staff for such a busy pub. Prices are average here as this pub is situated 1 1/2 miles from our city centre and is in a residential area.
The pub atmosphere is always bustling as like I have just mentioned it is always very busy indeed and this is extremely children friendly and really is a family styled pub with highchairs available and grab machines to win cuddly toys in it dotted about the place. There is an adult area to one end of the pub where children are not allowed into but there are a only a few small tables there and a wide screen television and of course you can't block out the noise.

That is just a run down of the meal deals on offer here at the moment of course and this is subject to change!
The main food offer is as I have stated a selection of meals 2 for £10.00 however other meals are available that are not part of that offer and there is a wide range of starters, sharers, side dishes and desserts to choose from to.
Starters are not on offer and you can choose from Duck spring rolls (£3.35, stilton and peppercorn mushrooms (£3.75), prawn cocktail (£3.95) and bubble battered chicken strips (£3.65), amongst alot of other things.
Sharing platters such as surf and turf cost around £8.00 a meal, salads including Oriental sticky chilli beef £8.15 (and there too as are vegetarian and fish options as well) and there are a selection of burgers, fish and vegetarian dishes available too all around £8.50 a head.
Children's meals range from £4.35-£5.45 and include meals like scampi and chips, faggots and mash, bacon and and cheese burger and chips.
Sides dishes include mushrooms, garlic and chips and things like that. The menu really is large and all meals including steak and chips and things that are on offer at 2 for £10.00 are clearly stated and sauces for steaks are available as are extra topping for burgers and things like that.
Desserts are around £4.00 each unless you want to share one at about 6.00 (those are huge) and include things like chocolate brownie and cream and toffee cheesecake and the likes.
The curry night is curries like balti and korma, again I haven't tried those but would be happy to but don't think they are fresh but more like a Wetherspoons idea of fast food style curries.
The carvery is superb though. Usually there are two meats which is turkey and beef and talk to the chef nice and he'll give you a slice of both and you get a frozen Yorkshire pudding and a ball of stuffing and a small sausage and you help yourself to roast and new potatoes, cauliflower cheese, peas, carrots and gravy and a selection of sauces are available, again to help yourself too! I love the roasties from here but sadly a carvery is only available on a Sunday or I'd be there alot more often!
There are toilets of course, a bit dreary but clean enough and there is a disabled toilet with a baby changing area within it. The whole pub is disabled friendly enough, though navigating yourself through a busy pub such as this can be nightmarish at times for even able bodied people!
There are fruit machines in here and an atm and you can pay cash, credit or with a debit card. There is plenty of car parking and disabled car parking spaces too.
All in all I'd say this is great pub for food and drink, particularly for families. Not so good if you want a quiet drink or a meal out but saying that you are left alone, the waiting time to get served can be long but the time for getting food isn't and the food is brilliant portions, there is plenty of choice and it's tasty and hot always. Yes the place could do with a bit of a revamp but its clean enough and the service is good enough and you can get rid of the kids in the play area if you want to (charges apply).
Summary: Great food, place needs brightening up a bit though!
