Located on Wodehouse Lane a little way out from the centre of Leeds, The Fenton is a small pub/venue that regularly puts on a fairly eclectic range of bands and artists encompassing Emo, Punk, Hardcore, Doom, Rock, Stoner, Metal, Blues, Indie and Acoustic music.
The main pub is downstairs, and the staff are friendly and clearly enjoy working there, whilst the usual clientele range from students to older folk, and there are always some good real ales on tap in addition to the usual draught lagers. The prices are reasonable too.
It's quite small but not so much as to be cramped, and this is also true of the upstairs room, where the bands play from a small stage out to a small-capacity floor for maybe a hundred people max. The PA is decent and pretty damn loud, and the venue is ideal for intimate gigs. I was lucky enough to catch True Doom bands Reverend Bizarre, Centurions Ghost and Gates of Slumber playing there on the same night a few years back just before the Reverend split up, and the intimate, unpretentious nature of the surroundings made the experience even better than it woudl have been in a larger venue. All in all definitely a venue to keep you eye on if you lke metal/rock/indie and live in or near the Leeds area.
