The Giddy Bridge (Southampton)
Advantages: Cheap drinks, food, occasionally quiet
Disadvantages: 30 min wait for a drink, food is not amazing, sticky floor
The Giddy Bridge is part of the Wetherspoons chain located in a area mainly frequented with Students in the evenings and Office workers at lunchtimes and these are the people that you will find in the Giddy Bridge at all times. It servers the same as all other Wetherspoons public houses and at the same good value.
----- Drinks -----
The Giddy Bridge sells the usual vast array of drinks at the normal wetherspoons prices and there are often deals and festivals on giving you yet more choice. I have rarely had a horrible pint and if I ever have they are fine about replacing it with a new one.
----- Food ------
The food in the Giddy Bridge in my experiences slightly above par for Wetherspoons, plates are always clean, the food is always hot and the staff cope well with adjusting meals to suit your tastes. There is a good range of food available in the standard menu as well as the weekly events such as Grill night, Curry Club, etc. There are also seasonal additions for various events celebrated around the country.
----- Atmosphere -----
There is normally a good atmosphere in here and depending on the time of year it can be either really busy taking upto 30 min to get a drink while competing with 100's of students who have just got their loans or quiet and you can sit down with your friends and chat peacefully. With an outside seating area as well it can make a nice place to just sit outside in the summer with views of a park and a busy street it is great for people watching.
----- Building -----
The building is your typical wetherspoons quite dark and dingy, the carpets are dirty, the fixtures are worn and broken. There is a roof terrace and a fenced off area if you wish to sit outside. The toilets are not particually nice and often smell quite bad but this is popular with most of the bars around this end of Southampton.
----- Conclusion -----
The Giddy Bridge is a good place to go if you are after a cheap meal and drink in Southampton and you are not on the highstreet or in West Quay. It is a good launching place to meet people before exploring the delights of London Road and Bedford Place. There is always people in there so you will never feel awkward and be bothered frequently by the staff. The food is always satisfactory and the beer is normally cold and fresh.
Overall I like this place and you will often find me in there with my friends before a big night out.
Summary: The Giddy Bridge is a good place to go in Southampton if you want a Wetherspoons type establishment
