Advantages: Exciting nautical pub!
Disadvantages: None
The Montague Arms is a pub in New Cross, just a few minutes walk away from both Peckham train station and New Cross tube station. The pub itself is quite special, from the outside they have signs inviting coach parties. Inside you discover a dark yet colourful in its own way pirate ship pub! Nautical equipment galore and elderly dears in unique nautical clothing who look like sailors from a bygone age.
The price of a pint is about 3 quid and the Sunday Roast (5/6/7 quid depending on the contents and the size) is delicious. The bar staff may look old but their certainly not old-fashioned (although they are certainly generous, friendly and well mannered) for this place holds numerous live concerts in mid week and appeals to a mixed crowd from dining old gents to youngsters from the local art school.
The Montague Arms was recently pronounced as the best pub in the UK and whilst the competition is stiff and I wouldn't go that far, it's certainly quite a unique little place that is definitely worth a visit whilst in London.
Summary: Well worth a visit!
