The Old Beams (Stourport)
Advantages: Good choice of drinks; Clean; Friendly people
When me and my mate went to Stourport last weekend we decided to go into town so we could watch the Villa make fools of Man U, it was on in Wetherspoons but the place was packed out and we'd just had a crap meal in there so we wanted to go somewhere else instead.
An old bloke having a fag outside said we should try The Old Beams instead, even though I've been to Stourport hundreds of times I've never heard of this pub so followed his directions. It turns out that it's only just down the road past the fair so it only took us 3 mins to get to, it's laid back a bit off the road and that's probably why I've never noticed it before.
It's a lovely old pub with beams (where they got the name from! lol) inside and out. It was cold and wet when we went but I reckon this place would look gorgeous in the summer when everything's green and in bloom. There's a car park out the back and according to the bloke we were talking to it's quite big and easy to get to, it was tooooooo cold for me to go and investigate for myself so you'll have to take his word for that!
Inside the pub there's loads of seats and tables, it was quite busy that Saturday because they had a few matches on but we nabbed a seat right by the big screen tv and had a wicked view. They serve food but we'd just eaten so can't comment on the quality of their meals, better than the naff Wetherspoons fish and chips we'd just had though I bet! lol
There were loads of families in there eating and food all looked delish. From memory I remember seeing people eating curries, scampi, pies, fish and chicken breasts so it looks like they have a good selection of food. The prices aren't too bad either from the sounds of it because the lady who was eating next to us commented to her hubby about how good her chicken was for the price, so it must have been reasonable.
The bar had all the diffferent drinks you could want. I was drinking lager because I'd had a belly full the night before and couldn't have coped with anything from the top shelf, but there was a big selection of spirits and wines. The only thing that wasn't very well catered for was the people who drink alcopops because there didn't look like there was many of them behind the bar.
The toilets were proper clean and had a lovely fresh smell, they wasn't anything special but you know how dirty some pub toilets are!!! lol
We was in here for about 2 hours and had a nice time. The people using it was mainly locals and they were all mega friendly, the smoking area outside was big and under cover and you've got a nice view while you're having your fag.
Summary: A Nice Place To Spend A Couple Of Hours In Stourport
