      Very helpful

A great place for all ages!

The Oxon Priory is a pub / restaurant in the Shropshire town of Shrewsbury. It is located in the Skelton area of Shrewsbury. This pub is owned by the 'Hungry Horse' pubs.

The Oxon Priory is set in a brilliant location - close to the town centre, whilst being just a little bit outside the centre at the same time. It is in an ideal place - easy to get to, and it's on the side of the road as you go into the town centre and so it is ideal place to stop on your way to or from town.
Good news if you are driving there - there is plenty of space available for car parking - there are two carparks, one at the front and the other at the back of the restaurant.

I love this pub! The restaurant has an open-plan lay-out and I like how there are plenty of seats available, different kinds of seats too. For example, you could sit on a big table by the window (it's nice that they have large tables by the windows, rather than just a table for two), or you could sit on the 'raised bit' by the back and watch the whole restaurant, or you could sit in another area and just keep yourselves to yourselves. So I would say that it is a great place for any occasion; whether you are going out as a couple, for a family meal or even for a party.

The inside of the pub itself is quite posh and classy to look at - it could easily pass as a posh restaurant. It has a lovely atmoshphere, really cosy and welcoming. I like how it's nicely decorated with dark red colours and pictures on the wall.

      ~ * Opening Times * ~

      Monday - Thursday 12noon - 9pm.
      Friday & Saturday 12noon - 9.30pm.
      Sunday 12noon - 8.30pm

      ~ * The Menu * ~

There are hundreds of items to choose from whether you are a meat eater or a vegetarian like me. You can have a starter, main and desert or you can have something light such as sandwich.

They also have a great selection of starters from as little as £1.99. They also offer some great 'sharers' - with lots of onion rings, garli bread, breaded mushrooms and chicken wings etc - to share - perfect for nibbling at when you are meeting friends.

They also offer a wide selection of side orders, from : chips, salad, potato wedges, garlic bread, onion rings etc from as little as 79p.

They also do a Sunday lunch on a Sunday.

There is a huge range of drinks including : Becks Vier, Carling, Carlsberg, Fosters, San Miguel, Belhaven Best, John Smiths Smooth, Guinness, Guinness Extra Cold, Bulmer's & Strongbow Ciders as well as soft drinks, teas, coffees and hot chocolates.

The full menu is on their website at :

      ~ * Value For Money * ~

They also have great deals most days of the week, such as: 'Wednesday - Curry and a drink for £5.99' or 'Mondays and Tuesday - Kids eat for a £1'. So there are lots of great deals which means that even if you are on a really tight budget you can still afford to eat here.

Their cheapest desert is 79p (even if it is tiny!). I love their deserts especially their big massive 'millionnaire' one - with loads of ice cream, chocolate bits and lot sauce! I always feel greedy having it though as not only is it massive everyone stares when the waiter brings it out and I feel embaressed even if I am sharing it with two other people!

      ~ * The Staff * ~

The staff are usually quite young - I'm guessing that they are students. They are always friendly and polite. To think that the staff are quite young (some of them maybe around 15 years old) they are very good at their jobs and give a good service.

      ~ * Facilities * ~

There are lots of facilities at The Oxon. Such facilities include: Beer Garden, Patio Area, Wheelchair Access, Disabled Toilet, Baby Changing Facility in disabled toilet, Outdoor Children's Play Area.
      ~ *My Experience * ~
I go here quite often and so have had many experiences here. I usually have something like a jacket potato with cheese + a side salad. The potato is always cooked to perfection - just how I like it and there is always plenty of cheese and butter. The side salad is always nice and fresh too and they have a gorgeous garlic-y salad dressing. A jacket potato is just £2.59 - great value for money.

      ~ * Hints, Tips and Extra Points * ~
It is a great place for people of all ages - you see young families, big families, friends meeting up (whether they are teenagers or in their 70s). It is nice to see somewhere suitable for everyone.
      Children are welcome until 9pm.
In some of the seats (by the wall) there are even televisions attached to the walls for children to watch whilst sitting at their table - I think this is good because it means that the parents can relax and enjoy their meal rather than worrying about where their child has go to and having to get up in the middle of their meal to go and find them.

They also have a pool table and wide screen televisions to show sport.

They also have a quiz night every Tuesday which is just £1 to enter.

They also do karaoke every other Friday.

The Oxon is always very busy which shows how popular it is. The other week we got there at around 11.30 for lunch and the pub wasn't open until 12 yet there was still a queue of around 8 people (who weren't together) waiting to go in.

There is a patio with lots of outside seating - great for Summer.

There is also a children's play area for children.

Children also get a free activity pack.

There are 60 parking space available.

I would definetely recommend this pub / restaurant.

      Thanks for reading!
