Disadvantages: alone diners are at a disadvantage
My mother who is a pensioner visited the pub in febuary for sunday lunch, although we have in fact been there before there is now a BOGOF offer on, yes buy one sunday lunch and get another one free, which considering it costs £10.75 isnt stricktly true! You can juast about go to any pub in sunderland and get a carvery for half that.
My mother explained that she was on her own and did not want two meals (she eats like a budgy) and was told she still had to pay the same price, my mother who is recieving a pension was reluctant to pay such a high price for a sunday carvery but as there was a line of people waiting paid it to save embarrasment.
This upset me when she told me this as it seems if your on your own your being punished by paying more, it is already difficul for pensioners and single people to go out alone without being charged double every couple! i rang the pub and spoke to a supervisor who said the prices came from head office but the fact my mum is a pensioner, she could have paid for a child portion, she seemed dissapointed at the way my mother had been treat and took her phone number so she could contact her and maybe offer her another meal, a meal she had paid for only could not eat on the day...hardly suprising given it was a carvery.
Some one contactedmy Mum the next day and advised that the price was indeed correct and she would not recieve another meal, so the actual price for a carvery for a single diner is £10.75, not such a good offer so it may seem to the growing single and old age popularity. Quite frankly im disgusted old people can be robbed like this and it has certainly not done my mother any favours of getting out and dining alone...shame on you!
Summary: punishing alone diners
