THe Swan with Two Nicks is my regular meeting pub. It has been for about 5 years now, and its great. If a bit small.

THE LOCATION

THe Swan is at the end of New Street in the Centre of Worcester, close to all of the nightlife in the city, but far enuff away from the Whoring bars to remain pleasent. THe street is the one King Charlie the second ran Down to escape during the battle of Worcester.
Within easy Staggering Distance is about 30 Bars / Pubs, 10+ restaurants, 7+ fast food places, 2 cinemas (odeon & Warner Bros), one pool hall, a taxi rank, a bus station, a cathedral and all the major banks.
This means it is well situated for almost any night out.

THE BUILDING

It is an old tudor building, within a row of Tudor Buildings (did I mention the civil war?...blah blah blah King Charlie....) that makes up one of the few areas of the city center that the planners did not really naff up after the post WWII renewal. The pub consists of a bar, er... chairs & tables... and thats the main bit. Up the stairs we have the Toilets (Gents are never too dirty, dunno about Ladies {not trying that trick again, community service is not some thing to repeat... joking, honest.}) and also on the upper floor is a function room / restaurant. A chess club used to meet up there years ago if I remember rightly.
The fact it is a tudor building give the pub a lot of its atmosphere and charm. And for regulars there is not much that can beat the joy of drunks hitting their heads on the low beams....

Right next door is Drummonds, a bar that is owned by the same people - so there is a lot of movement between the two - especially on a Saturday as Drummonds has a late licence.

THE BAR

THe bar has a range of drinks that is very impressive, when you think it is only 2 meters in length. There are usually 3 'guest beers', Stella (Wife Beater), Guinnes, Strongbow and Boddies on tap. All the usual 'chick dri
nks' in the fridges. Recently they have put a glass cooler in too - how swish!? THe range of spirits is good. The usual suspects are there- JD, and so on with the pleasent suprise of the rum being Lambs or Capt. Morgan. THe flashest thing about the bar is the range of Malt Whiskies - 69 of em! Yep 69, I counted them on Tuesday. Often there is a deal on for certain drinks - for example they had a Pimms & Lemon special recently, so people could ponce about at a cheeper price.

THE ATMOSPHERE

Its Great.
During the week it is a mellow, regulars, first Daters quite couples and reminiscing friends pub. A place to be relaxed and enjoy some quiet company. In many ways its a country pub in the middle of the city.
THe weekend sees it change. Whilst it is still a great atmosphere it is dead busy, if you get in after 8 dont expect to sit down until people leave for clubs after 10. It tends to be full of groups of people on nights out, with far fewer of the regulars visable.

Is the DukeBox ! Where else can I put Alvin Stardust, Screamin' Jay, THe Doors and MotorHead Back to back with Squeeze, SHaggy, THe WHo and Steps?

Sorry it wasnt more entertaining, but the Reading weekend caught up with me and I am collapsing into sleep!
