I assume it makes a profit as its always been there, so perhaps pub goers avoid it when they think I may be visiting. The Mainevent, behind or through the Turnpike, is the place to go for sporting events. It is full of big screens, small screens, medium screens, banks of screens etc. ... more

 ... These often show a mix of events, but there are enough screens that you can watch whatever you want wherever you are in the place. It also has a couple of pool tables, which at the risk of sounding sexist, have been very useful to keep the girls occupied...more

The Turnpike and the Mainevent are essentially two different pubs, offering different things, which just happen to be joined together. I will review them seperatly here, but keep in mind that you can travel between the two without going outside into the rain (a worthy feature in Hull). The Turnpike is quite spacious, with a big oval bar in the centre of the room. It has a variety of seating with normal tables, enclosed cubicals and a raised area (only slightly though) with further seating. It also has a large variety of quiz machines and fruit machines, which although hardly a startling innovation for a pub does provide some ammusment.
