Ok let me tell you about my experience of the city vault in Newcastle it is in d area they call the big market. I was over in Newcastle for a birthday over d weekend of the 5th Of Nov till the 8th Of Nov. We decided to go the city vault on our big night out.. things turned bad when a agressive bouncer of theres pushed a 49 year old aunty of mine..he then proceded with another bouncer saying how our group should go back to our own country (Ireland) dat we wer all a pack of sluts!! We tried to be calm and ask what the problem was but again he got agressive and kicked my mother that is 50 years old in the leg causing alot of brussing..I found this disgusting that they would treat women in this way and have put me right of Newcastle if dats the way women r treated its a disgrace!!!
Starting with the positives the bar is right in the centre of town located on Newcastle's famous Bigg Market (the Bigg Market isn't a positive I must state though). So you do not have far to walk to your next bar!! The Vault or Cty Vaults as its now known is probably one of the better bars on the Bigg Market which isnt saying much really. The bar is slightly rough and filled with some characters on a weekend, through the week its mainly students. Its a big bar though so it does get busy and there are a few bars to get served at, you can have a dance or there are places to chill out and have a drink. Prices are pretty much standard. About £3 a bottle which is what you will pay in most places. One advantage is that there sometimes are Q jump vouchers available for Blu Bambu (the nightclub opposite) Its open on match days and has toples dancers all afternoon (never been when this is on in so cant comment). Its not the worst bar on the Bigg Market and you could do a lot worse. My advice would be if you want to sample the Bigg market go here... but Newcastle has a lot more to offer!!
This bar is excellently situated, as one of the first bars you come to entering the Bigg Market. It is, however, an oldies bar. Yes, it's one of those "over 21s" places that tends to attract "over 30s". The barmaids are good-looking, and topless on match-days, which is always a bonus. Prices aren't bad. Double with coke/lemonade/orange is only £1.50 It's very linear, and has a very wooden theme, which gets a bit dull. The lighting is crap and the punters are ugly. Music is mostly poppy - another reason not to go. The only reason you should consider this place (unless you're old, ugly, a cheapskate, and like pop music) is for the doubles. At £1.50, for 15 quid you'll be on your way, and there's another 40 bars at staggering distance, which is always handy, and taxis pass through there too.
