“ Wolseley Arms / Wolseley Bridge / Stafford Staffordshire / ST17 0XS / Tel: 01889 883011. „
Had a meal here recently with my family, very disappointed. Glasses were dirty, meals dry, not a good vegetarian selection, service slow and staff standing around talking when we tried to get their attention they said they would be with us in a minute! We will not be going here again! p.s the one stars because we were hungry
When I moved into my new house one of the important things for me was that there were some decent pubs and restaurants nearby as I do like my eating out and so does my fiancé. We moved into the house and within a day had found a great pub called the Wolseley arms which we have now kind of adopted and made our second home as everything about this place is superb. It is one of those that are never quiet as they have such a good reputation and the atmosphere is always top notch and I will attempt to let you know why I love this place so much.
What is The Wolseley?
Some may call it a pub and some may call it a restaurant as it does have elements of both. We have been there way over twenty times now for food and it is so relaxing to sit down and have a nice meal with very well cooked and presented food. Then at night I have been there a lot to just sit and have some drinks so it has elements of both which is fantastic as that is exactly what you need in the middle of the country where I live.
Where is the Wolseley?
The Wolseley arms is quite easy to find as it is on the A51 which is quite a main road and it is situated on the corner of two roundabouts so you should be able to spot it if you drive past.
This place has the greatest location. Ok so it is on a main road as I said above which doesnt really sell it too much but honestly despite that it is in a fantastic spot. Surrounding the Wolseley Arms are craft shops which sell some pretty lovely things. It is only small in my opinion but you can find some great antiques and their homemade bird tables are what I have got my eye on at the moment. Then just over the road is the Wolseley centre which gives you details about nature reserves in the area and also walks you can go on.
Then there is also a garden centre there which is huge and I buy all of our garden things from there as they sell plants, furniture and machinery. The actual Wolseley arms is situated right by the canal so from outside you can see fields, animals and the occasional canal barge go by which is truly stunning. Also it is a short drive away from Stafford and the very impressive Shugborough Hall, Ingestre Hall and Weston Hall.
From the outside as you go past the Wolseley arms looks like the perfect country pub. It has a bright look about it with nice cream paintwork and the letters of the name stand out very well. It basically just looks very homely and inviting.
The car park is quite big but I will warn you it gets full very quickly as the place is always busy so if you dont get a space you can park over by the craft centres if you can get in. it can get quite annoying but we dont usually have trouble finding anywhere to park.
When you walk inside you will see all of the logs they use for the real coal fire they have which is so warming and cosy in the winter months. There are seating areas everywhere and the bar will be to your left. Everything has quite a cottage feel to it with wooden furniture and beams and decorations are so neutral and the whole place just makes you feel right at home which is great.
You should find that the whole place is very clean whenever you visit and the staff are very friendly and will help you with anything you need. There are lots of seats and at the moment there is one small smoking area but obviously that will change from 1st June and if I am honest I have never smelt smoke when I have been in there as I think a lot of people go outside to savour the views.
There is a great selection of drinks available and so far everything I have ever asked for I have got. The only thing I cannot tell you about is cocktails but knowing the bar staff they would probably make one up for you. The drinks are very reasonably priced and the bar is always well stocked.
You order food from the bar and there are menus on all of the tables. There is a very good selection of starters mains and desserts and even a small selection of lighter meals which I enjoy. The starters include things like breaded mushrooms at around £3.50 and the starters are decent sizes in here so dont go mad if you are not actually feeling that hungry.
The main meals do change every now and again and there are specials written on a blackboard near the bar. My favourite is one of the lighter meals which is salmon and broccoli fishcakes (£4.95) which are just divine. The fish and chips (6.50)is also very nice as my fiancé has this most of the time when he visits. For puddings they are around £4 each and yummy including my personal favourite chocolate fudge cake.
I love the Wolseley and have visited so many times that it is a wonder they have not offered me my own account there now. We even went on Valentines day as it is that nice a place. Around this area I think it does serve the best food, has the best atmosphere and the friendliest staff so it is well worth a visit.
I am going to give the Wolseley arms full marks as I cannot fault it at all and we have always had an excellent experience when we have been. I would feel comfortable to take anybody I know there as I know they would love it to. If you want somewhere that immediately feels like an old friend when you step in there then you should eat or drink here.
Thanks for reading.
