I'm not a regular drinker in the Thirsty but the best nights I've been in there is when there has been one of these two nights (Funkademia/Northern Funk) on in The Attic above the pub. It's small, compact and smoky which isn't always comfortable to be in. But it's a good crowd, friendly staff and the music is top. This is where it comes into it's own. It blends together soul, funk, motown, blues, jazz and more from the last 40-50 years. And it's in no particular order so you could easily jump from Al Green to Stevie Wonder to Lauryn Hill. Great stuff. The door isn't extortionate (£3 - £4) but the beer is a bit steep considering the best choice is cans (Red Strip, Stella, etc). This may have changed recently because it's been a while since I have been. The Thirsty is just directly underneath Oxford Road station so it is also handy for Revolution, Elemental, Copper Face Jacks, MMU Students' Union, O'Shea's, Joshua Brooks, etc. All are within a couple of minutes walk away.
