great rock/metal bar/venue in the centre of Newcastle

Trillians Rock Bar is located on Princess Square in the centre of Newcastle, and as the title would suggest it caters to the rock/metal fan demographic. The bar is located down a set of stairs and has a large, long bar at one side with a stage at the other, upon which local and smaller international rock/metal bands play throughout the week. Refreshingly, the gigs are usually free in, even for relatively high profile acts like America's Nachtmystium and black/sludge band Unearthly Trance as well as UK bands such as Wodensthrone and Black Sun, and the small size of the venue and reliable sound makes for some intimate and immensely enjoyable gig experiences.

They have a decent range of lagers as well as some nice bottled ales, and these are pretty reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly and efficient. When not hosting bands the bar plays a decent mixture fo rock and metal music, and attracts a wide range of clentele, from older rock/metal fans to students from the loclal University, and all in all its pretty difficult to find anything to complain about, as the place is clean, centrally located and friendly, with a great atmosphere and a regular intake of interesting bands. Well worth checking out if you live in the area.
