Expert Wine Advice and wicked cheese

Vinoteca is a wine bar and restaurant set on St Johns Street, within 10 minutes walk of Farringdon, Barbican and Angel tube stations, this is a popular area for cool bars and restaurants in Central London. The place is easy going and the staff are really passionate about what they serve offering advice on wine and the best food options.

The restaurant itself looks awesome with a bar area and separate shop selling an abundance of wine and related things such as books.

I love the look of the bar with lovely wooden tables and seating and an old fashioned bar, it reminds me very much of a Parisian Bistro both in look and environment, people here have fun without pretension.

The place is great in that it encourages people to enjoy wine and learn more about it, staff are really knowledgeable and happy to discuss your choices or give advice but there are also wine tasting events and events where chefs will talk about combining wine with foods.

The place is always buzzing and rightly so, with over 250 wines on offer by the bottle and 25 by the glass, its a great place to experience and try wines in a buzzy venue which is big on charm. The place is open from midday until late and offers a changing menu.

We saw things like pan fried grey mullet and some beautiful steaks with home made fat chips (which looked amazing when we saw a plate taken to another table). On our visit we ordered a selection of cheeses and chutneys to go with a recommended malbec wine and some home made oatcakes, this was a perfect accompaniment to our heady wine and allowed conversation to flow with nice picky food, we found the staff to be brilliant, with the wine, we spent £30 but that was for 2 bottles of wine and cheese, so was good value, main courses were well priced and looked and smelt amazing. I really enjoyed the visit as we weren't made to feel ignorant when asking for wine advice and we found the selections combined perfectly with the cheeses, we had a great time and the place was busy without being overwhelmingly so.

I would really recommend this place, it has great service, wonderful wine and food and wicked staff, its a great venue which is much less showy than many other bars in Clerkenwell and has an old style class and elegance to it.

Overall its one of the best wine venues in London, both to learn and to enjoy new wines in.
