      .

This is my local when I am in the City. I've known about it for about a year and a half, but never made it round there. We eventually got round and now will alawys go there for a few drinks and the occassional meal.

Situated in the Omni Centre in Edinburgh. This centre has a Cinema, Gym and the rest is made up of Eating and Drinking places such as Slug and Lettuce, Pizza Hut, Chinois Chinese Buffet and Frankie and Bennys. The Omni Centre is about a 6 minute leisurely walk away from Princes Street and how you get to it is if you are at the Waverly Train Station steps (imagine you have just walked up them!), turn to your right, cross at the traffic lights, walk down the hill and you just follow the road all the way down past John Lewis, but on the opposite side. The Omni centre is set just back a bit from the main road. You can go in the main entrace to the centre, but this Bar is way at the back, so you will have to walk all the way through. The easier way is to cut through the square outside of the Centre and there is an entrance at the back of the building that takes you straight into the Bar. There is also tables, chairs and benches outside that you can take your drinks and meal out to.

This is marketed as an Australian Theme Pub, and although it has austrailan themes all over it, I always think of Theme Bars being tacky and full of loud people. I've been in here mid afternoon and the odd evening and although it ca get pretty busy, it isn't overbearing and you don't wait too long to get served either.

The staff here are nice and i've not had a surly or bad member of staff yet. A few of them are Australian and perhaps that add to the value of the Pub.

Inside is pretty spacious. The bar is set on the left hand side of the room and also the kitchen is here as well. There is a few stools at the bar as well. The seating seems to be split into 2 categories and all seats have tables at them. The first half of the room has tall stools with tall tables, and the other part of the room has comfy leather wrap around chairs and a square table at the right height. This is where we always sit, as it seems more comfy than trying to hitch up onto a stool. The 1 word of critisism would be that because all the seating, tables, bar and flooring is a dark brown colour, then it can look a little dingy in my view, so perhaps the odd lighter colour would go a long way. There is a Pool table, dance floor and DJ booth in here as well!

There is stuffed Koala's and kangaroos around the place and the odd Australian flag. There is 6 Large Plasma Televisions dotted around the place and they are broadcasting a mixture of Sport and Music Channels. Oddly enough the sound is often on both Tv's so you can hear the Music with a mix of Sports commentary going on in the background.

The toilets are great. The women's toilets have a few mini Televisions around the sink area, full lenght mirrors and you can even pay £1 and use their GHD's up there. Not sure how long £1 gets you, but a pretty smart bathroom. Also the flush sensors are automatic, so you just wave your hand in front of them and they flush! I've been told the men's toilets are the same (even down to the GHDs), but they have tv's at the usinals as well. The bad point about the toilets are that you walk alond a windy corridor and then up 20 stairs, so the corridor may make you dizzy after a few drinks and also if you are not careful you may fall down all the stairs.

Now down the important part - the Food and Drink. The last time we were there we saw they had launched something called a Boomerange Card - What's that? Well for £3 you get a little plastic card and that allows you 25% off everything you buy. The prices are already resonable for Edinburgh City Centre, but this makes it even better. A pint of Beer is normally £2.90, but now down to £2.20, and a 2 pint Pitcher of Cocktail is normally £7.50, but is down to £5.80. I always get a Pitcher to myself if we are settling in for a couple of hours as they are delicious and pretty cheap at that. The Cocktails are all named after Australian themes such as Screaming Gallah, and Kicking Kangaroo. Also with your Boomerange Card you get a unlimited Vodka and Red Bulls for £1.50. Made with Smirnoff and proper Red Bull. We bought the Card in March and it runs out end of August, so we've certainly had our money back with it.

The food here is nice as well. They serve huge Burgers, and you get all the toppings on them, Chips, Onion Rings, Coleslaw and Salad and with your Card it costs £4.05. Other grub they serve is Pies, Pasta, Fresh Sandwiches, a few desserts and the odd starter. I wasn't taken with their started and dessert range, but I guess they focus on Pub grub more than anything. they also serve Kangaroo steaks and burgers - but I wouldn't even go there!

A great chilled out place to eat and drink. The atmosphere and prices are great.

If you go to Google and type in Walkabout and then the city you are looking for it will bring the website up, as they are all different for the different cities (well they were the last time I checked!)
