Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: quite a few
This review is about my experiences of Wetherspoons, particularly the one l visit most, in Stratford!
Sometimes myself and my partner have a drive into stratford and visit their wetherspoons. This is one of the nicer wetherspoons we have visited. We usually go, for affordability, drive out, and we love Stratford so it makes a change to go somewhere a bit different.
Im not one of these people who really loves wetherspoons, neither do l hate it. Its not a pub l go for an exciting evening out (who does?), to me it is a practical pub, offering cheap food and drinks, infact sometimes l have to check menus twice just to make sure lve seen the price right, l do not deny they are a pub offering a bargain!
Wetherspoons is a chain of pubs with over 719 pubs in the UK. They opened their first pub back in 1979. They pride themselves on providing high quality food and drinks at affordable prices.
Food
****
Wetherspoons offer many different food dishes, and on certain nights they have a curry night, grill club and Sunday club, which offer more than the usual menu offerings, and meals are served with drinks included.
The food in my opinion is okay but not fantastic. The menu has a fairly good selection, but l have found the quality to be poor and portions tend to be small and quite tasteless at times. Its cheap don't get me wrong, but if your after something a little special, ld avoid wetherspoons.
Meals are practical. Having said that lve always found the deserts are really nice, and couldn't fault their chocolate fudge cake! That has top marks from me, but that could be because it contains chocolate! However main meals are rather dull and lve often felt disappointed with my meals which is a shame.
Wetherspoons are presently offering a selection of value meals for £2.99, and on selected meals you can have two meals for £6.99, or a burger and drink, with chips for £4.99. So prices are ver y competitive. They also have a competitive childrens menu, with organic items on the menu which is nice to see.
Drinks
*****
Im not a huge drinker (believe it or not) but wethersoons are competitive on most drinks. They do all your regular soft drinks and fairly good variety of beers and wines at good prices. You'd be supprised by some of the prices, and there are different offers available. You can also have tea, coffee and cake etc. A bottle of san Miguel is presently 99p!!
Staff and presentation
Cant say lm particularly happy with the service of wetherspoons staff, although meals are always served quickly! However staff often appear tired and grumpy and there are always different members of staff working, so it is aimed at no particular members of staff. Its just they always look rushed of their feet so never have the time to deal with customers properly, they seem to spend the day running around.
At wetherspoons, you order at the bar, so don't have a huge amount of interaction with staff, however the service is impersonal and not pleasant at all.
Generally this particular pub is clean and tidy. But l have been when cutlery was dirty which was disappointing. Staff will always try to rectify problems if they can but many of the staff at this particular wetherspoons don't speak a lot of English, so quite often we have ended up with the wrong items too, another annoyance.
We always tend to sit in the family area because its usually a bit nicer, it seems a bit better looked after, the rest of the pub seems a bit neglected at times.
I personally am not a smoker, but what l will say is they have a nice smoking area of adequate size. Their toilets l have always found reasonably clean too.
Overall, l would say that if your in town and hunger strikes, wetherspoons is fine. It's a simple pub which provides the bare minimum, and that's fine, just don't be disappointed if it doesn't match other pubs that you have visited. It's true what they say that you get what you pay for! I will continue to visit and know plenty of other people who will too just don't expect too much.

- 19/02/09 Weatherspoons are very hit and miss for me. In my Town we have two fantastic Weatherspoons, but also a few really bad ones. And one in particular that is awful. |
