Advantages: cheap drink.

Disadvantages: Poor service overall and poor food in some branches

Wetherspoons is a chain of pubs that has grown out of control over the years and there is almost guaranteed to be one near you, but are they any good? Well in my opinion, having tried three of them, the answer would be no not really.

My local one is a converted bank building and when they done the conversion they really should have put a bit more thought into it in my opinion.

The toilets are up a flight of over 40 stairs which holds problems for anyone that has been drinking all day but also is a nightmare if you have taken the kids in for lunch.

With my local one there is another problem that I found and that is that the staff are nothing short of ignorant, I was served the wrong meal one day and they really could not have cared less, they almost implied that I should just eat what I had and shut up and on a Christmas night out a friend and I stood at the bar for nearly ten minutes waiting to be served and although I have to admit it was very busy, the guy serving seemed to be managing to get round to serving all the fit birds without too much trouble.

Moving on to another branch of Wetherspoons, this time in Manchester, it was almost as if they had the same staff as my local one as they were just as ignorant if not worse, perhaps Wetherspoons breeds these people in some secret location.

After being handed two warm bottles of beer I asked if we could have cold ones, the girl told me all the Budweiser had just been put in the fridge as they had ran out and just had a delivery.

Although I was not happy I drank the bottle I had ordered and then asked her the next time what was in the fridge that was cold, to which she replied everything except the Budweiser so I ordered two Miller`s and guess what? They were warm too, my friend had, had enough and he told her that he did not want another warm beer so could he change his for a pint and the girl snapped at him "what do you suggest I do with the bottle you have had a drink from? Sell it for half price"?

At this she was told exactly what to do with the bottle and we headed for another pub in disbelief. My third bad experience with a Wetherspoons bar was in Edinburgh, this was one of the biggest Wetherspoons I had seen and it was also one of the best looking but unfortunately the staff were again not great and even worse the food was awful, which I have to say is unusual as the food is usually quite good.

Our order took a while coming and when it arrived we were stunned at how bad it looked, the chips looked like they had been lying for days and the fish was broken to bits and looked like it had been kicked on to the plate.

I am never one to just eat what I am given in order to keep the peace so I grabbed the waiter as he passed and asked him if he could change it and he turned out to be a bit of a comedian (or thought he was) he asked what was wrong with it and I showed him and asked him if he would eat it, His reply was "yeah right now I would eat anything I am starving" and he went on to say that he usually goes to the snack van but he would put up with a meal from here if it was free.

He perhaps thought he was funny but I did not and I do not expect to be treated like that when I am paying for a meal. Eventually we were served something that looked passable and we made do and left and that for me will be the last time I enter a Wetherspoons anywhere.

They may sell their drinks at great prices and they may on the whole look like nice places but my experiences with them have been terrible and from now on i will be avoiding them and I certainly could not recommend them to anyone!

Summary: I could never recommend this place to anyone!

a good place for early in the night - (specially good place to get your round in!) - great stuff!

I hate them with a passion - the food is awful and the pubs themselves are dull, or, as my late husband used to say, "atmosphereless little holes".
