I've been to the whistling goose twice in recent times, the first because someone took me out and the second for my Birthday meal because it was so good the first time. The pub i have been told has new ownership but as i have only just been informed of it i have no knowledge on this and it's validity.
The pub itself is situated in a bit of an awkward location on a dual carriageway meaning you have to go down it to go back the opposite direction which is pretty wasteful on fuel however it isn't right on the road so you hear the traffic all evening. It seems to work as both a pub and a restaurant with a laid back smart pub area as you first walk in with multiple screens with SKY playing and comfortable seating available and quite a bit of room. Then if you decide to walk further into the back area you have a more posh restaurant area that you can go, i have now eaten in both however i prefer the pub atmosphere to the restaurant but it does cater for both so you can make your decision when you get there.
The drinks in the pubs are quite steeply priced when you consider what the food is costing however still not bad for pub prices however i doubt i would go there to just drink, it was about £2 for a coke and i cannot recall what cider was but it certainly wasn't cheap.
The food was very good and i would recommend it to anyone who wanted a decent pub meal and it was also very fairly priced, for about £10 you could get two 12oz beef burgers, two butterfly chicken breasts, chilli and kidney beans with a huge portion of chips. Very worthwhile if you are a big eater.
Went there this week and got to say the meal was fantastic very theatrical on sizzler plates smoking hot with very delicious food the meal was perfect and it had a £250.000 revamp so was well impressed with the who feel and staff looked fantastic recommended to all.
The one thing me and my mate do an awful lot of is eating out. We are usually out doing car-boots and things and enjoy grabbing a quick bite to eat when we are out and about and that moment we are in a rather sunny Hull.
I haven't been to many pubs here and that is actually down to this place to be perfectly honest with you! We love this pub so why go anywhere else and after going to it's sister pub 'The Sailmakers' this really is superb as the other places food was, well....erm not fit to feed my dog with in my opinion and I'm so not into frozen prawns!

This pub is a massive stand alone pub. Plenty of parking to the side and back of it it looks lovely and well lit up at night which is why we spotted it in the first place.
Inside, the pub is incredibly spacious. Most of it is on one floor though some places have a step to them and up on that level they have big leather sofas etc and the whole place is decorated in cool tones. There is an atm in here, tv screens and grab machines and the tables are of all different shapes and sizes and some are more hidden away then most. The pub has a quiet atmosphere and the staff are impeccably clean and pleasant. The bar is well stocked and they usually have enough staff to cope with the customers on duty and the toilets are very clean at all times (there is also a very spacious disabled loo too and you need a radar key which I have to use it and there baby changing facilities in there too).
Drinks here are of usual sort of price really. They do have special offers on of say a wine for a fiver a bottle and a special beer on offer and that and they do a large selection of wonderful teas and coffees starting at around 99p (though do have the coffee and a slice of cake that is on offer for £1.99 if you have room!).
The menu is great too. 2 meals for the price of one any day of the week and there is a selection of sandwiches, jackets, kids meals (at about £3.75 a head), proper dinners and Sunday roast for about £5.35 on of course a Sunday. There are not many Vegetarian meals available but plenty of cod and chips, salmon and new potatoes, fish cakes and there is a bean-burger type of meal too. Prices are about £7.00 for fish and chips, £9.00 for lasagna but do remember that in the week it is buy one get one free and lots of people order posh burgers, salads and steak meals.
The food always comes out in record time and freshly cooked. Mine and my mates favourite meal here is The Codfather which is the biggest battered cod, chips and peas you have ever seen and it's always wonderful! The desserts here are great as well with ice-creams, cheesecakes and chocolate items all around the £4.00 mark with desserts to share as well (at about £6)..
All in all we go here a couple of times a week. We are always greeted and said goodbye to, never rushed and not once have we had one single complaint. The clientèle is mixed with lots of work type people and families and children are allowed in to eat as well (till 9pm).
This is a lovely charming pub with good honest and tasty pub food that can't be knocked one bit. It's a clean pub and although busy cos it's such a big place it never becomes claustrophobic. I love it here and whilst we are in Hull will continue to frequent it! Thumbs up...love it!
