Advantages: good prices for drinks and meals, many special offers
Disadvantages: many people are beginning to realise how good it is here!
If you are out and about look out for Yates as you will get a good cheap meal here.
If you are out and about and find yourself wanting to stop somewhere other than McDonalds for something to eat you cannot do wrong looking for a Yates.
It is not just a wine bar.
During the day, which is what I am going to write about, you can get a meal and drink. At night it turns into a nightclub with food and drink which unfortunately I have not yet been to.
As you enter Yates you will find it very spacious and airy. If it is very hot then the whole front is opened up so that you find it very refreshing.
There is a long bar with bar stools if you prefer to sit there otherwise there are very comfortable settees and chairs around the tables. It has a relaxed atmosphere even though there are american style tvs on the walls at many areas. During the day soft music plays.
If you are just going in for a liquid drink the drinks are very reasonable but dont order the drinks separately if you are going to have a meal here as most of the menus are for 1 meal and 1 drink to save you money.
The prices are doubles from £2.29 for vodka up to £2.85 for a double Jack Daniels and coke. If wine is your tipple you can get white or red house to share for £4.99. A cocktail pitcher is £4.95 every day which has 4 shots of alcohol in it or £2.50 a glass. Bottles are £1.50 each and shooters £1.00 so you can easily affort a drink with the meal. Soft drinks are 75p upwards.
Everyday at 5.pm they have a different food menu day. This goes on until 9pm at night.
Sunday is as could be expected Sunday Roast. This is £5.99 and even buy one get one free and you do get your moneys worth. It is excellently cooked. Served on larger than large plates and in a reasonable time.
Monday is Burgher and Budweiser day. £3.29.I havent found out yet if you can have another drink besides budweiser.
Tuesday is Grill day. Price £4.49. They really do do it to your specification too.
Wednesday is Pizza and pasta for £3.99. This is very very popular.
Thursday is Curry, the cobra curry club. Curry and drink for £3.39 I have only tried their chicken madras which seemed milder than a lot of madrases but for a quid you do get poppadums with it.
On these days if you go before 5pm you get 2 for 1 and this includes things like fish and chips, lasangne sausage and mash and scampi and chips.
None of these are more than £7.
I dont know a lot of places where you can get two good meals for under £7.00.
What I especially like about Yates is that you are not rushed or hurried, they dont hang around your table waiting for you to order and when you have finished your meal they do not rush you to go. They are laid back but having said that they bring the food quickly and the drinks you go and fetch yourselves.
