A decent pub in Milton Keynes.

We were staying with some friends at the end of last year and it's fair to say we got around quite a bit visiting numerous pubs and restaurants. This is how we ended up at Ye Olde Swan in Milton Keynes. The main reason for visiting is that one of the people we were staying with is a Vegan and was sick and tired of having to ask for dishes to be altered for her by chefs in all of the places that we visited. So when a friend of ours suggested this place because it's well known locally for having lots of good vegan and vegetarian options we decided to give it a try!

First impressions of this pub was that it was absolutely delightful. It is all delightful oldy worldy looking and it has lots of beams and fantastic features about it. There is just so much character about this place that it's almost unbelievable. It's so quaint looking and is just the kind of place I'd love to have grown up in. It's adorable and while it's not particularly well built for disabled people it's gorgeous with it's little steps and low beams and things like that.

The staff in the pub were the next thing that I noticed, they seemed to have a very positive buzz about them and everyone seemed genuine, warm and friendly. In short they looked like they really enjoyed their jobs and that there was nothing they would rather be doing in the world. I love it when you see someone who truly buzzes from what they do as they just seem to spread warmth and cheer throughout a place and the management must be very pleased with the quality of staff that they've attracted.

It did not take long at all for us to be seated and the ever so helpful staff whisked us over some drinks in record fast time. I had a gorgeous Winter fruit concoction that was absolutely delicious, now I have no idea what was in it but I still feel like I can taste it now when I think about it. It was warming and deliciously fruity and was just what I needed after coming in from the miserable weather outside.

The menu was fantastic with a large variety of choice, there really was something for everyone with some of us having meat dishes, some vegetarian and some vegan dishes. There was such a vast selection that it took us all a fair bit of time to decide what we wanted. This actually meant we ended up sending the waitress away two times but she didn't seem to mind and was happy just to wait until we asked her to come back on the third occasion which she did so very promptly. The food was delivered to our table in quite prompt time and everything looked and smelt delicious. We all ended up having a little nibble of each others food (apart from my vegan friend!) and I was pleased to find that all the dishes were equally delicious and lovely and I could find absolutely nothing about any of the meals that I would've changed. They offered some of the usual pub fayre as well as some more unusual meals but there really was something on the menu for everyone which is always pleasing and surely has to be a reason why you should check this place out if you are in the area.

There is a lovely ambience to this place and if you go exploring you will find lots of little nooks and cranies to sit around and enjoy a drink with a friend. It's the kind of place that could be incredibly busy yet you'll always feel like you have lots of space to yourself as they haven't packed it to the rafters with furniture taking up all available space. There is also a lovely little garden space outside which would be wonderful for enjoying in the summer months and even though we visited on a drizzly rainy December day the garden still looked inviting and I ended up wondering around while my partner had a quick smoke before the journey back to our friends.

Overall we were very pleased with this pub. It wasn't the cheapest pub that we'd visited that week, infact the most expensive, but it was serving wonderful food and that's what it is all about for me! We had a lovely time here with friendly, attentive staff and delicious food that was a pleasure to consume and was talked about the whole way home!
