Bugaboo Cameleon Footmuff
Advantages: Warm, fleece, waterproof
Disadvantages: Expensive but worth it
It's winter time and when pushing a pushchair around I always worry that my little girl is too cold in all this snow and wind. She is now in a pushchair rather than a carry cot on wheels so I think in my opinion it's much harder to put a blanket around her and tuck it in and make sure that it stays and that she doesn't kick it off.
We have the Bugaboo Chameleon pushchair and so one of the "optional extras" I bought for it was the Bugaboo footmuff. I am really quite jealous that my little girl has one of these and would really love one for myself as well as it looks so warm and cosy and perfect. The footmuff is basically a big bag, much like a sleeping bag, that goes over the end of the pushchair where the feet rest and cover up her feet and bottom half and keeps her lovely and warm.
I think the beauty of this particular product is that it is extremely well made. The inside portion of the footmuff is a lovely warm fleecy material and so will lock in the heat and keep the warmth in the bag. The outside of the footmuff is made with a sort of microfibre material and is wipe clean which is really great and I think stands up in all weather conditions. It's also waterproof. Recently we were out and it snowed that kind of wet snow that gets you really wet. The flakes just sat on top of this footmuff and were easily wiped off without soaking through the material as there is nothing worse than sitting in a soggy blanket type material. With this footmuff my little girl not only stays warm but stays dry as well which is extremely important. It is also a great wipe clean material. IF we get any spills on it, which we always seem to do what with milk or food stains it just wipes clean with a wet cloth and comes up really well which is lovely.
The footmuff is especially made for this pushchair and so the seatbelt straps that feature on the pushchair have opening in the footmuff which they come through so it's an extremely cosy, tight fit and this makes it very comfortable. THe bag actually goes all the way over the top of the pushchair portion and so there is some fleece and padding where her head lies. Then, it zips all the way around so it's very easy to put your baby in and out of this pushchair as the bag opens all the way and then zips up once you have her in there. It zips right up to past their hands so if you want to get them extremely nice and cosy you can really bundle them up. However, if it's quite warm out and you want to make them a bit cooler you can unzip the bag and get a bit of air in it. There is also a toggle in the middle of the bag which allows you to pull the material together and make the bag fit a bit snugger around the top.
The footmuff comes in a variety of different colours so you can mix or match it to the colour of your existing pushchair colours. We got a red version which is red ont he inside and outside but it also comes in black , blue and others I believe. You can buy the footmuff in places like John Lewis or direct from the Bugaboo website. Its not cheap, it comes in at £90 but for warmth over the winter, good looks and a product that really lasts you can't go wrong and in my opinion is one optional extra worth getting!
