a nice easy to use addition to your buggy

I recently bought a Maclaren Universal Bumper Bar to go on my new buggy. I recently owned a Chicco travel system that was far too heavy and hardly fitted in my car boot so I wanted to replace it. There were many aspects of the travel system that I did like and one of those was the bumper bar. My daughter seemed more secure and liked to sit forward rather than slouch back in the seat like I had noticed my other children doing when they were in their buggies. I looked everywhere for an umbrella fold buggy with a bumper bar but they were mostly travel systems. I did find a couple of buggies with bumper bars but they were either very expensive or had other things that I didn't like. Whilst searching online I came across the Maclaren Universal bumper bar and thought this could be the answer. Because the Universal Bumper bar was made by Maclaren I looked at Maclaren buggies but these cost more than I wanted to spend. I looked at loads of different buggies in stores and decided on one that I liked and set about trying to find it at the right price. I eventually bought a Silver Cross Pop Classic on ebay for a really good price. Although I liked the Silver Cross I still hadn't given up trying to get a bumper bar. I searched again online for the bumper bar and looked for reviews to see if anyone had tried it on any other brands of buggy but couldn't find any. The bumper bar is not widely available online and I have not seen it anywhere on the high street. I looked on all the sites to compare prices for the bumper bar and also for postage. Most sites were selling the bumper bar for £15.99 and postage seemed pretty standard at between £4 and £5. I did notice that most sites were out of stock at the time I was looking. One site that did have the bumper bar in stock was www.Kiddicare.co.uk. Whilst browsing I noticed that they had a forum so I posted a message asking if anyone had tried to use the bumper bar on any other brands of buggy. I was replied to by a member of staff who had actually gone and tried fitting the bumper bar to the Silver Cross buggy. I ordered the bumper bar and it arrived quickly. It is made of hard black plastic with two large clips one on each end. The bar part is covered in some sort of polystyrene and this has a charcoal grey coloured cover that features the Maclaren logo. You also get two small inserts that need to be used on certain styles of Maclaren buggy like the Volo which must have a smaller frame. I fitted it straight away and it was so easy you just open the clip and then close it around the upright of the buggy. The buggy can still be folded when the bumper bar is in place and you can raise and lower the bar without undoing the clips as it clicks up and down. My only complaint so far is that the bumper bar is only available in charcoal grey and you cannot buy replacement covers for it. The cover that comes on it cannot be removed without unstitching or cutting it off so I tried to dye it as my pushchair is black but this didn't work. Eventually I made a fleece cover for it and now it looks great. My daughter is only 10 months old and because of the weather has been wrapped up in her cosy toes so the bumper bar hasn't really had any use yet but I am really pleased with it. I would say that it is a little expensive once you take the postage into account. I used Quidco so got a little bit of cashback but it was still quite costly for something that you don't really need. I would like to see something like this made by O'baby or Mothercare as I think there is a market for it and this would obviously bring down the cost and make it more accessible by bringing it to the high street.
