“ Brand: Silver cross / Type: Raincover „
When the time came to re-use our Silver Cross 3D pram with our second son I knew that I would need to buy another rain cover as the one supplied with the pram had become split after 3 years' worth of use. I did various internet searches to try to find a cheaper one but to no avail so I ended up spending £25 on the Sliver Cross website to buy a replacement.
On opening the box I was pleasantly surprised to see some changes to the design since we first had one. The material was still the same clear plastic but there was a zip with a material cover to protect it and two Velcro tabs to secure it in place. The cover that had come with the pram didn't have a zip making it awkward to get in to my son. All the trim is in a light grey material which gives it a nice finish.
Fitting the cover over the pram when it is in the pram mode rather than a pushchair is very simple to do. You place the cut away section over the handles at the front to lower it down over the apron of the pram. You then tuck the rear section over the hood of the pram and using the elasticated sections secure it to the chassis of the pram. Once this is all in place you then zip up the cover and place the material section over the zip to protect it. This really only takes 2 minutes maximum in fact it has taken me longer to type it than do. This is one huge selling point for me as if a sudden rain shower comes I want to get it on in super quick time to protect both the pram and my baby. When I have this on in the pram mode I don't always use the Velcro tabs as the way the cover goes on means that the entire pram is well protected and even in some of the gusty days we have had this year it has remained firmly in place.
One of the things I like about the design is the zip that goes along the hood of the pram as this means it is nice and easy for me to access my son if he starts to cry and needs lifting out. I can undo the zip and lift him out without undoing the whole of the rain cover meaning it can stay in place covering the pram ready for me to put my son in again on a walk or to remain in place to allow the cover to dry off. I also like the zip being there as I can undo it slightly to allow some fresh air in without the pram being uncovered as there are no ventilation holes in the cover. For air to circulate in the pram you either need to slightly undo the zip or not fasten the Velcro on the section by the handles which is something I often do to allow air in. By keeping the section near the handles open it seems to stop a build of condensation on the inside of the cover. The lack of ventilation holes would be my only criticism of the design as I think it does a great job in all other areas.
Using it in the pushchair mode is equally as simple except I do need to attach the Velcro straps underneath to stop it being kicked off.
As to keeping the rain off this cover does the job a treat it covers the entire pram easily. Even in the midst of a heavy rain shower and thunder storm recently the rain never penetrated the cover and just bounced off nicely. It can pool slightly on the top of the cover but a quick push and it falls off without any problems.
Folding it up like all rain covers is easy to do but they never seem to go as small as you think they should. It does however still fit nicely into the basket underneath the pram and still leave room for my raincoat and a small amount of shopping.
Overall I would definitely recommend this rain cover for Silver cross 3D prams it is easy to use and keeps the rain off both baby and the pram. I am giving it 4 stars as I am taking one off for the lack of ventilation holes.
