      fun puzzle

The Galt puzzles represent the higher end of the market in terms of quality puzzles for me. There are a vast range to pick from, suitable for a variety of ages. This particular puzzle does seem to be aimed at kids, but as it is an eighty piece puzzle, I am sure older audiences would also get satisfaction from composing it too.

Arriving in a bright bold purple cardboard box, it certainly makes you want to sneek a peek inside. The box is a huge draw and a big selling point in all Galt puzzles, this way you can see exactly what you are getting. Easy to understand instructions and puzzle information are included on the packaging, even though it is quite straight forward.

A decent sized puzzle at just under 70cm across, it is best to do it on a table or flat surface. So what is it about this puzzle that makes it so unique? Well, it comes with several pieces which you need to rub to expose pictures underneath. This will please younger children and also helps add a dimension of intrigue to the puzzle. The pieces are shiny and bright and slide in together with ease. The rubbing bit is achieved by producing a small amount of heat to expose what is underneath.

The illustration on the puzzle is great with astronaughts exploring a planet, while mingling with cute aliens. These are cute aliens, there are no fierce looking beasties here and nothing to give you nightmares. Due to the size of the puzzle, there is plenty going on to look at, both in the sky, on the surface and in the background; check out the alien homes! I love the colours used on the aliens, the shading is superb on their bodies and the faces are weird and wonderful.

No real quibbles with the puzzle, but maybe a free alien toy in the pack would have enhanced it. When you have finished why not photograph the puzzle, print it out and let your children take the print to school.

The puzzle will cost anything between eight and fifteen pounds and can be bought online and in stores.
