Advantages: nice sized pieces - very good quality - mix and match element is fun
Disadvantages: none
A couple of Christmases ago I was searching for a gift for my then two year old son. He loves tractors and anything to do with farms but as we have so many toys like this I wanted something different.
I went onto the Orchard Toys website www.orchardtoys.com as I have always felt that their toys and games are of very good quality and they offer a wide range of interesting items. On the website I found the Ready steady Tow mix and match puzzle selection. I was first drawn to the jigsaw puzzle because of the tractor but on closer inspection I felt that my son would enjoy the mix and match element of the jigsaw.
I was very pleased with my selection when it arrived and when my son received the gift he was also very excited by it. Admittedly the tractor was the first thing that caught his eye but he soon noticed the other vehicles and was keen to make the puzzles.
In the box you get the pieces to makes a tractor, sports car, 4x4, family car, trailer, horse box, speed boat and caravan. Each puzzle is made up of between three and six pieces and all the vehicles can be joined to any of the towed items. The puzzle pieces are nice and thick and just big enough for little hands to hold and manipulate easily. The pictures are simple but brightly coloured and fun.
We have had these jigsaw puzzles for almost two years now and they are stilled pulled out of the cupboard on a regular basis. My children find it very amusing to put the sports car together with the trailer full of hay or the tractor and the speed boat. So far the puzzle has remained in an almost new condition and none of the pieces have been bent or torn. Even my youngest son who is 20 months hasn't chewed any of them yet so it is doing quite well.
The puzzle is recommended for ages two to five and I would say that this is probably about right. My son is now almost four and his older sister is five and they still both enjoy doing the puzzles. Obviously my daughter can do the puzzles much more quickly but she still enjoys the game even though she does fight with her brother over the tractor. I haven't tried to make these jigsaws with my youngest son yet as I know he would probably just end up trying to eat the puzzle. He would have a go at putting the pieces together but I feel that at the moment it is beyond his capabilities.
I paid about £7 for the puzzles I bought direct from Orchard toys and I received free postage because I spent over £15. These puzzles and many more from the Orchard toys range are available from www.amazon.co.uk. Ready Steady Tow! Is currently available on www.amazon.co.uk for £5.38 and this would also included free delivery.
I would definitely recommend these jigsaw puzzles to anyone with young children as they are obviously good for hand eye coordination but also lots of fun.
Summary: A great entertaining set of jigsaw puzzles

- 13/08/09 We've got these! there's still some debate raging in our house as to the precise gender of one or two of the characters in the puzzles but these were the first jigsaws our little man really took too, because of the way you can interchange them |
