When one of my little nephews turned one back in late Spring, I knew straight away what to get him for his birthday - anything to do with Bob the Builder, and he was be happy. So I was looking around for something that he could play with as he developed, rather than a short lasting item, and I noticed on amazon, this Ravensburger Bob the Builder Wooden peg puzzle, which currently retails at £7.99 but I got it for £5.00 at the time of his birthday.
This wooden puzzle is actually aimed at children over 2 years old, and I have to say that it is only in the last few months that he has interacted more with this puzzle. That isn't to say that he didn't like it when he was given it, but he didn't really take an interest in peg puzzles at that time, whereas now he will sit in his high chair and play with this puzzle.
The puzzle itself has 8 pull out pieces, which I will admit right now that I do not know many of the names of, although he can tell me them as he pulls them out. His mum, my sister knows them all too, but when I am with him, I rely on him. Nonetheless, all the main characters of the programme seem to be there as you can see from the picture at the top of the page, and it is a very bright and colourful puzzle which keeps his attention throughout his dinner or lunch for example.
None only is this a good toy for those children familiar with the characters of Bob the Builder, but it has educational benefits as well, including extending concentration, matching shape pieces as well as coordination, as with any peg puzzle children have to manipulate the little colourful peg to make it fit into the correct slot.
The other plus about this product is that it is designed to be durable despite it being handcrafted, which is pretty essential when you have a toddler who can be a bit rough with the pieces and the board.
All in all, this is a great way to encourage a toddler to enjoy puzzles, and if they are a Bob the Builder fan, well this puzzle should be right up their alley. They will love the colourful pull out characters from the show, as well as the challenge of getting them back into their correct position. There is just enough pieces to keep the attention of a young child and the fact that is a good quality and hard wearing puzzle is an added bonus.
