Butterfly Clip Deluxe Table Tennis Net and Post Set
by Thebaker50
The idea behind this invention is the ability to take a ping pong table with you... anywhere. The idea is simple, have a net, which attached to these 2 clamps, that have poles sticking out. You somply clamp the two clamps to a table, and stretch the net over the top, and hey presto, instead ping pong table. Sadly though, for 25 odd quid, ... the effect does wear a little thin.
First off, my friend has developed his own system, using 2 clamps from B and Q (which together cost him about a tenner, and he can use for actually clamping in DIY projects), and he then just carries masking tape to form a "net". This may sound crazy, but honestly it works better than this thing, because for this you need a table of a certain width for it to really work properly. The only table that this seems tow ork on is a table tennis table... and if you have one of these well... why would you want one of these kits? Unless your own net broke perhaps?
The next problem is that these nets go on tables... but honestly how many times can you stick one of these to a table, and just start playing? I dunno, I bought this, used it once, and never used it again. I am just glad I was able to return it.
As for quality of materials, it doesn't warrant the price. For nearly 30 quid, there are other similar devices out there, and I would even recommend doing what my friend does!
Overall then, I kinda think this is a waste of time. Unless unknown to me you need it for an actual table tennis table (my friend has one, the same friend with the duct tape, but I don't think his net comes off? Please comment if you know more about this!).
I am not really sure who this is for, its kinda a bit pointless really. Read the complete review |

Dunlop Table Tennis Fort Tournament Balls
by anwar7
Several years ago I bought an outdoor table tennis table for my children. However it has proved a huge success with all the family. It is always a popular choice of activity when friends visit and many a nail biting competition has been held on our patio! I have always believed that if you enjoy a sport you need decent equipment to get ... the best out of it. This is true for table table tennis balls.
There are many different table tennis balls on the market but I like to buy 3 star, tournament quality balls. One and two star balls are really best used for practice . Three star balls give a consistent bounce and are the correct weight as set out by the International table tennis federation. Dunlop tournament balls come in packs of six and can be picked up for around £3. Sports direct have these balls on offer for £2.99 at the moment. I have bought cheap table tennis balls in the past, but found that not only was the bounce inconsistent, but they tended to split easily.
To be honest I am not particularly loyal to Dunlop as a brand and think that all 3 star quality table tennis balls are similar. I bought Dunlop as they offered the best price in my local sports shop. However I have been pleased with the quality of these balls and would definitely buy them again. Table tennis is a great game and one that all my family really enjoys! Read the complete review |

Artengo Rollnet Table Tennis Set
by azana
For sport on the go it doesn't get much better than this Table Tennis set which can be played pretty well on any table you want, and which is one of the best things we've bought this year. As a family we may well be way off Olympics level but at £9.99 currently at Decathlon (rrp £19.99) it's an inexpensive buy. Decathlon seems to be ... the only place that stock this brand as far as I can tell - you can purchase online or in store as we did, as a bit of an impulse buy. It has got us started playing table tennis and is getting lots of use. It's available in lots of different colour combinations - we chose green, with replacement bats being a reasonable £1.99, should we ever need them. The product itself comes with a 2 year guarantee.
In the set, which is very compact and comes in two little 22cm by 16cm sturdy carry cases which are 10cm deep when velcroed together (not pictured here but can be seen on the decathlon site, link at the end of this review), you get all you need for play - a net, two midi sized rackets and 3 brightly coloured balls. The design of the net is the cleverest thing, it rolls out, to a length of up to 2metres and the two poles have spring loaded clips on the bottom which means that it automatically adjusts to any thickness of table, up to about 5cm thick. Installing the net is a breeze and, once in place, it stays firmly put during play. We've used it indoors on a circular round glass table as well as on varied outdoor picnic tables from that in our own garden to various ones out and about. Once you have finished play it takes less than a minute to pack everything away tidily.
Clearly, when using this set you are not necessarily going to be conforming to official table tennis rules, though circular table tennis is certainly an interesting variation on the traditional game in my experience. By my measurements the net height itself does, however, seem the same as the official 15.25cm one prescribed by the international table tennis federation. It's not a set to be used for more than fun but, in my opinion, for the price you pay it is pretty well made and enjoyable for all participants to use. The bats themselves have rubber faces in two different colours and, again, are not a standard competition size. They work well though and you can get quite some speed up with them; they give a fairly authentic experience of playing and are certainly a step above a toy. They have rubbered sides which do mean that the table you play with is slightly protected in case of impact. The handles are a little small at only 7cm long, but with this set it's all about transportability and fun - you literally can play wherever and however you want. The set is so small it's easily slipped into a picnic bag or case; the solid plastic lids and zippers keep everything well protected.
I think that for the price that I paid this set is excellent, it's a great introduction to the sport and could be worth buying before in investing in a proper table, which is going to be a lot more expensive. A combination of clever design, good build quality and the fact that it's just plain fun to play with make this table tennis set a great buy in my opinion - I highly recommend it.
