Crucial Ballistix 2 x 4 GB DDR3 2000 MHz
by xlPROoToTyPElx
After recently building a new home pc i decided to use a different manufacturer for my RAM memory. I had a look around online and came across the 'Crucial Ballistix 4 GB DDR3 2000Hz (x2) for a total of 8gb of RAM for only £98.88! I couldn't help myself but to give them a try.
After arriving a few days later i unboxed them. ... Both being securely wrapped in a plastic bag lined with bubble wrap; then securely held in place by a white foam mould to stop them from being damaged in transit. They also came with a help guide, warranty numbers and information and also a minimum and recommend system and hard ware requirements documentation. There was also a driver installation CD for use depending on your system configuration.
I performed a test with this using Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium. The system took to the new hardware and booted up speedy and faster than i thought (On a fresh installation). I installed several Adobe software licences including "Photoshop CS5 extended edition, Dreamweaver CS4 and director." I also tried out installing "Pinnacle studio ultimate 15 and Sony Vegas 10" as these also take up large amounts of memory to run. The system its self was using a 500gb HDD so storage space wasn't an issue.
I managed to run all 3 of those adobe products without fuss, and this included using the software, browsing for files, saving files and using other various system tools such as iTunes and Norton 360 insight scan. Which again take up system resources.
I decided to try and push the system to its limits and push the ram to see how far it would stretch. I managed to have World of Warcraft running, command and conquer, iTunes and photoshop running and still no crashes!! I was amazed at how much this Ballistix could take. My computer is one of the fastest i have used and is a no wait no fuss computer at the moment in my opinion.
The technology behind it is DDR3 SDRAM using a form factor of DIMM 240-pin, The maximum memory being 2 x 4gb giving a 8gb total RAM Size running at a memory speed of 2000Hz (PC3-16000).
I still haven't had any issues with the computer since the ram has been installed, i've had 2 friends that have used it with 2 separate major motherboards different to mine and they have no trouble, so all major mother boards will be compatible with this product.
If you want a RAM drive that's going to majorly speed up your computer and give it truly 'Ballistix' speed and endurance then i highly recommend this product. Its a must have if your building your own system or merely just upgrading to a bigger RAM size. This is a must HAVE. However i will say, only get this if you are going to be pushing your computer to the limits e.g. for gamers, video editors developers, photo editors ect. Read the complete review |

Crucial Ballistix 2 x 2 GB DDR2 800 MHz

I have had this RAM in my computer for 2 years now. I got it because of the reputation of crucial and for its striking appearance.
PROFORMANCE: it has served me very well for a multitude of applications, i have used it with video editing, games and 3d modeling software. although DDR2 RAM is now on the way out i still find ... it's speeds to be adiquate for most tasks and haven't had much in the way of problems while using it. The cooling plates also work well i have yet to suffer any overheating with these units even when my PC is under full load. I don't overclock my components so i can not comment on any OC potential with this unit though.
EASE OF USE: RAM on the whole is probably one of the easiest components to install, but with the cooling plates on this model (the sexy yellow metal side panels) it's even easier as you don't have to worry as much on how you hold it on installation (its still worth grounding yourself first though to avoid any static build up and potential damege to the RAM).
One thing to mention on this, is the great customer service you get from crucial themselves. lats xmas one of the RAM sticks had a fault which lead to random BSOD, once i had diagnosed the problem i contacted the company. they got back to me with in 24hrs and told me to seld off the RAM to them. Within a week they had replaced it and my PC was back up and running perfectly. this was a great relief and the whole proccess was very quick and painless. I would recommend Crucial RAM to anyone. OCZ Gold Gamer eXtreme XTC Dual Channel 2 x 1 GB DDR II 800 MHz

I bought 2 sets of these for my main PC, which i intended to overclock, i also bought a small fan for the top of the ram, as they already have heat sinks on. Specs wise, the timings are good for the price, and as long as you can raise the voltage on your motherboard for the ram you can get tighter timings whilst increasing the speed of ... the RAM at the same time. I have these running just over 1000mhz and they are pretty stable. This may not be a lot but, I would prefer stability to extreme speed.
The heat sinks on these sticks are very stylish although most people would probably never even see these again once they have been fit in, they do keep the chips cool though. These are quite simple to fit, the memory can only slot in one way, if you aren't very confident at playing with the innards of your computer, it can be costly getting these fitted. Couple these with a good Quad-core processor and a decent graphics card, and you'll have a very good gaming machine at a very reasonable price. Read the complete review |
