Advantages: Gives me an extra 512MB

Disadvantages: No manual

This review is a little brief, but you can't write too much about a little stick of RAM! No, really you can't.

Even though I had a computer with 1GB of memory I decided I wanted even more from my computer, so I bought this! 512MB is the average amount of RAM a newish computer has, but it really isn't a lot in the long term. But saying I was only upgrading extra!

I never went into a computer before, as I was a software person myself. So I was obviously scared, in case I broke anything. So I spent about ten minutes researching, I thought it would take hours but I was amazed at the simplicity described!

I remember the days of 16MB RAM being loads, so I thought 512MB would cost lots, I was extremely shocked; it only cost around £30, from eBuyer!

Now I'll do a little explaining. Many different types of RAM exist, DDR 400 (PC3200), DDR 266 MHz (more commonly know as PC2100). This is a PC3200 stick. Different motherboards take different RAM.

The way I found out the type of RAM my PC took was simple, I looked at the invoice. On it, it stated '2x512MB DDR400 RAM'. This means I had 2 sticks of 512MB over one stick of 1GB. 2x512MB costs less than 1x1GB.

Many computers only allow 2 sticks of RAM to be in at once, so I would recommend you open up you machine and look if you have any RAM slots free, do a Google image search to see what they look like.

RAM itself is very small, and is less tall than an A5 sheet of paper, and about an inch wide. It is easy to install, you simply pull a little catch, slot it in, and push the catch. Then you boot your machine.

The RAM itself is quite fast, hardly any RAM is faster than 400 MHz, and this is 400 MHz. It hasn't greatly increased by computers visible performance as the original stats were good enough; but some software I use SETI@home, which processes information for Berkeley University, and that has shown some increase in that's performance.

One downside is that no manual is provided, but that is understandable for it's low cost. This is sort of made up though by providing adverts to many (independent) RAM websites.

The RAM itself took two minutes to install. When you go into a computer shop and they say "That'll be £60." they must me giggling inside, £30 in two minutes!

I am very happy with this product, and would recommend it to anyone.
