I recently upgraded the hard drive on my Macbook Pro and decided to give the RAM a boost at the same time.
I read several excellent reviews of Crucial, a website dedicated to selling good value computer parts so that was my first stop. I used the online tool on that website to find out exactly which RAM I should be buying for my particular Macbook. The online tool was incredibly simple and easy to use and understand. It gave me a clear answer as to which memory cards I should get.
I didn't actually buy my RAM directly from Crucial, but from their shop via Amazon, as I had some vouchers. I think its good that they have made their products available through this outlet as Amazon vouchers are a really popular gift.
The RAM arrived within a couple of days in the form or two very techy looking green cards with the crucial logo on them. They were smaller than I thought, and quite fiddly to install if you're a bit heavy handed as I am. It took a few goes before I had the memory cards in perfectly and both of them showing up on the macbook operating system. This was a bit of a hassle as I had to screw the back of the laptop on and start up every time to check! If you know somebody who's done it before or is good with hardware, get them to do it for you!
The performance of the RAM has been excellent. I now have 8GB as opposed to the 4GB that came with the macbook originally. My computer does feel faster and in some ways its like a new machine. As I fitted the RAM at the same time as a new hard drive its hard to know which is responsible for what, but the overall result is very positive. At just £60 this is great value for money for the boost it gives your computer. Its been about 4 months since I fitted the Crucial RAM and there have been no problems at all.
