Advantages: Looks good and the heat sinks keep the modules cool

Disadvantages: Fitting is a knuckle scraping event

When building a new pc main pc for myself recently I pondered on the benefits of faster memory but got drawn into a situation which made my mind up for me...

Pc world were selling 4GB of OCZ Reaper X memory in the form of 2 x 2GB modules. Seeing as Reaper X is OCZ's best generic desktop memory, I thought this would be a worthy purchase for my beastly machine.

I stepped into Pc World and ended up in a rush and bought the 800mhz version. At first glance the 1066mhz was too expensive... I wouldn't normally buy computer components from Pc World but I was planning to build the pc immediate and couldn't wait.

When I got home I found the box to be badly damaged, the heatsink radiator type coolers were very lightly damaged - a couple of marks. I ended up waiting a couple of days till I could swap the memory.

In the meantime the price was slashed in half...so I reserved a set in case they flew off the shelves. When I arrived at Pc World the reservation was in place, but the stock had been sold. For the hassle, damaged box etc... I ended up getting the ram for £20 - which meant I got £60 back having paid £80 for it. Chuffed!

Anyway, now you've read my story, I should really review the product. It's difficult to fit, so don't leave it until last if system building.

On Vista I get a rating of 5.5 without overclocking, not bad but I have seen better results from other less flamboyant modules.

Value for money was superb in this case, but all OCZ modules are great quality and perform well...so check out their range on places like ebuyer for the cheapest at the time. The Reaper X version does give you slightly better heat dispersion, but unless you're a heavy over clocker you won't make the best use of this design.

Summary: Another great model form OCZ
