      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A nice enough meal for two people though not amazing!

I love Chinese food and quite often grab myself a takeaway from my local though it can be an expensive business, especially if its for two people of course so the other night with not too much money to spare I decided to treat myself and my friend to a Chinese meal however I didn't have enough cash to spend to buy one from the takeaway and couldn't be bothered to cook us something so I popped into my local Asda store to see what they had on offer and I found this meal for two at the price of £4.00 with plenty of cartons of food in it.

      The Packaging:

Each item within the meal offer comes in black plastic cartons which are oblong in shape with peel back see-through plastic covers on them and within a slightly frosted bag. On the front of the bag we are shown photographs of what is included in the meal bag and told that it is Asda 'Chosen By You' Meal For Two, Sweet & Sour Chicken & Chicken Curry and that within the bag there is a sweet and sour meal, a Chinese curry, boiled rice to share and prawn crackers and there is an at a glance nutritional chart shown and the price. On the back of the bag other information listed includes being told how to cook the meals up, ingredients and allergy advice is listed, the weight is given which is 1.05kg, a full nutritional chart is stated and contact details for Asda are listed. I like the style of the bag with a bit at the top so that you can carry it and that its informative enough and looks nice as well!

The Items all have different times to cook and can be oven cooked or microwaved apart from the prawn crackers which come ready to eat and in a see-through plastic bag.

      The Sweet And Sour Chicken:

This is a saucy meal, bright orange in colour with plenty of roast chicken breast which is juicy and soft with chunks of onion and slithers of pineapple within it along with some thin slices of well cooked and not soggy red pepper. Tangy and sweet this isn't just sauce but has plenty of bits and pieces in it and looks really nice. I like the fact with this meal that the chicken breast is tasty and well seasoned and that the sweet and sour flavours are equal and both me and my mate though this was simply lovely and fresh and tasting.

      The Chinese Chicken Curry:

With a thick light brown sauce and chicken breast once again in large chunks and in abundance this also contains well cooked and juicy peas and thick slices of onion. I like the consistency of this meal which is thickened up with yogurt and cream and it has a hint of garlic flavouring within it for me however the adding of nutmeg in this has no place at all and is a little overpowering and really, well this Chinese curry tastes no where as good as takeaway/ restaurant ones sadly. The onions were a little hard within it however this was a meal packed full of flavour...just not one we were overly keen on.

      The Boiled rice:

White and fluffy this was a moist boiled rice that although moist didn't have grains stuck together and was reasonably fluffy and tasty. This didn't taste seasoned at all though was easy enough for us to do it and there was plenty of it between the two of us too.

      The Prawns Crackers:

You get a rather large bag of these which were a light whitish colour, not greasy and very crispy/crunchy. They tasted delicately of prawns and were slightly salty and fresh and we really did like these and the fact you get rather a few of them too! Once opened though be sure to eat them up because once opened they do wilt fast!

      Overall:

This isn't a bad ready meal option for two people. There is plenty of food for two largish appetites, its all easy to cook up especially if you have a microwave and plenty of flavour is in everything. This is a decent quality option of a meal, looks good although I'm not overly keen on the curry personally it isn't dreadful!
