      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A nice flavoured roast potato; handy if you dont feel like peeling/preparing, potatoes.

I have to admit that I have never ever tried anything cooked in Goose fat including roast potatoes. To be perfectly honest I am not fantastically impressed with these Asda Goose fat potatoes. What I mean is, yes I like them, but as for there being any difference regarding them being roasted in Goose fat, well, I didn't notice any.

I love Asda and I buy a lot of my food at Asda. I was having something nice to eat for my dinner with my partner. It was actually another Asda dish, a sort of lime chicken which we both love. We looked around and saw these 'crisp Goose fat potatoes with Thyme' and thought they would go well with our chicken dish. We were right and they did go well with it, although I can't really say that I thought they were particularly special in any way.

The flavour of them was quite nice and you could taste some of the seasoning; they also came out fairly crispy which is how I like my roast potatoes. There is also plenty of them and just about the right amount for 2 Adults.

Asda describe them as 'Chunky Maris piper potatoes roasted in goose fat for a fuller flavour and crispier texture. Seasoned with garlic, sea salt, cracked black pepper and thyme'

I would suggest that these nice tasting and flavoursome potatoes could go well with lots of different foods; all sorts of meat and possibly fish too.

      *Cooking*

The potatoes are to be cooked in the oven and take about 50 minutes; turning occasionally. They must not be reheated.

You can freeze the potatoes but they must be eaten within one month and must be defrosted before heating.

      *Calories*

For 100g of the product there are 153 kcals
For half the pack there are 353 kcals.

Asda do state that if you are not 100% happy with this product they will refund and replace. This is really good actually. I can't say that I was 100% happy with the product but I certainly wouldn't ask for a refund; they do taste pretty good.

      Would I buy them again?

If I am honest, I probably would , not just for the taste, but really because they are easy to cook!! And if its on a day when I just don't feel like preparing foods etc.

These are a pleasant tasting, nicely flavoured potato and reasonably priced at £2.00.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Well seasoned, crispy roasties!

On a Sunday, more often than not I will attempt to make me and my flatmate plus whoever is here at the time a good, old fashioned roast....we love it.

However I am not good with getting all the timings right and my oven can be a right mare when it comes to roasting things and I find more often than not that my roast potatoes really are not all that great which is why when I spotted a tray of ready prepared roast potatoes I decided at just £2.00 I'd try them out for a change to go with beef and all the trimmings!

        The Packaging:

Well as I touched on previously the potatoes come in a tray and that is a rather deep foil tray and over that you get a purple coloured 'sleeve' and on the top of that we are told that they are Asda 'Extra Special', Crisp Goose Fat Potatoes With Thyme 'Chunky Maris Piper potatoes roasted in goose fat for a fuller flavour and crispier texture. Seasoned with garlic, sea salt, cracked black pepper and thyme' and that this tray is enough to serve 2 people, weight is 460g, they are suitable for home freezing and contain no artificial colours, flavours or hydrogenated fat. Other information on the back/bottom of the sleeve includes ingredients and cooking instructions (oven cook only for a bout 50 minutes), storage details are listed and contact details for Asda are given. Nice enough packaging this is and of course it is informative as it needs to be!

        The Potatoes:

Pop them in the oven and voila they are done! Crispy and tasty, golden, large sized chunks of potatoes ready to eat with an aroma of garlic to them and they don't look one bit greasy at all!

These are tasty. You know.... I have never liked frozen potatoes before and can tell them a mile off if I'm eating out and get served them but these tasted really, really fresh and just like I really had made them from scratch myself.... so a great cheat they really are!

The potato is well cooked, soft and fluffy on the inside, well seasoned and they have crispy edges. You can see specks of green thyme on the potatoes plus a couple of sprigs you can remove before eating them that tended to settle in the tray. I love them and there is nothing to dislike about them. Highly flavoursome with just a hint of garlic and thyme seasoning I can't tell what difference the goose fat makes to them really but they really didn't taste quite as greasy as I'm used to which is a good thing.

This tray really does give 2 generous portions of nice looking potatoes and they really do get a firm thumbs up from me!
