Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Stupid thick sauce; Sweet and salty which is just weird; No taste in the sausages
I brought this tin of beans and sausages in Asda last week because I love them on toast and wanted to see what the Smart Price version are like because I quite like their beans.
The 420g tin I brought cost 26p and that's a proper bargain compared to the Heinz version because that is getting mega expensive at the minute. I wasn't mad keen on them though and I think they tasted very low quality, I could tell from the sticky look of the beans that it wasn't going to be very nice.
There are about 8 sausages in the tin mixed up with the beans and they are a bit longer and thinner than in other brands of these. They are proper pale looking and I wasn't very impressed with the look of them. The beans have got a majorly thick sauce and even though I didn't heat them for very long the sauce all disappeared so that the beans looked like they had been stuck together. They poured out of the pan in a loose lump, they tasted very mushy too and the sauce had a weird sweet but salty taste.
The sausages didn't taste meaty at all and have got a funny firm but squishy texture. They taste a bit smokey and have got a bit of a hot dog sausage flavour, not too much though and I thought they tasted mega bland.
For the price they make a quick meal if your not too picky about food like this. What I always think about is that this sort of stuff is not the healthiest anyway and this cheapo one from Asda has got to be even worse for me than the rest of them because it tastes and feels revolting. The beans get very salty as you're eating and they are not very nice to eat at all.
I had mine on toast and because the sauce is so thick and sticky it didn't help to make the toast go wet or anything. That might be a good point for you but I love my toast soggy with bean juice and that doesn't happen when you use these!
Summary: Horrible Food
