definitely worth a try, cheap and filling quick food

I'm usually put off veggie food because people tend to say its great no matter what it tastes like, so rest assured I'll be impartial here. When I first saw these I wasn't expecting much but after trying them I was really pleasantly surprised. First of all the size was rather impressive compared to a meat burger, 4 burgers actually fill the box. The burgers are very soft in texture but the beans and veg inside give you something to bite and the nacho coating is a wonderful crunchy complement to the whole thing. They also taste great, and the slight spice ensures you won't find this product to be bland. I get a slight vinegary taste from them which is not great, but I think the rest makes up for it and it doesn't last, might just be my crazy taste buds. When cooking on the grill be careful when you turn them as they don't hold together very well, but all in all I found them to be a reasonably priced and convenient dinner solution.

      Very helpful

Of late I have been staying at my mates house helping her move. This wouldn't normally be of major significance of course apart from in this case it has really changed my diet. As a meat eater (me) and a vegetarian (her) at first meals time were a bit fraught because I didn't know what an earth to cook for her and she didn't know what to cook for me lol. However one of us had to compromise (me) and now I eat little meat and we eat the same dishes in the man. The only thing I drew a line at was plates of vegetables with little else on a plate (which she lived on) and so we have been shopping for other things to satisfy both of our needs alot of late!

I spotted these in Asda costing £1.62 a box and we basically liked the look of them on the packaging!

      The Packaging:

Bright green oblong box of which two sides of it appear the same. I am told that they are Asda Meat Free '4' Spicy Bean & Nacho Burgers 'A delicious combination of red kidney beans, haricot beans, vegetables and spices, coated in crispy nacho breadcrumbs' and that to 'Enjoy as part of a tasty and satisfying meal', the weight of the product is stated which in this case is 454g and I'm also told that the burgers contain no colours, preservatives, hydrogenated fat or artificial colours, that they are to oven cook, suitable for vegetarians, the best before date is clearly displayed and there is an at a glance nutritional chart listed. Other information given on the box includes includes ingredients, allergy advice and a full nutritional rundown being listed, storage details are given (these are suitable for freezing by the way), cooking instructions are given and of course contact details for Asda are also stated. Nice informative packaging this is of course!

      The Burgers:

Well all we are advised to do to cook these is to cook them from frozen in the oven in about 25-30 minutes or under the grill which takes about 14-16 minutes. I have cooked these both ways and really there is no difference to the outcome of them providing that you turn them regularly under the grill and don't let them burn of course.

They are basically round and quite large, not too fat but not what you'd call to thin or anything like that interesting looking burgers!

What you get is burgers coated in flakes of golden nachos. They are evenly coated, crispy and well seasoned. Inside of that coating you have a mix of kidney beans and haricots, potato, onion and a small amount of sweetcorn, green peppers and carrots sort of all mashed up and soft and very well blended with what tastes like fresh parsley, oregano, basil, cumin, coriander and a small hint of chilli and garlic.

Taste wise these are really tasty and taste rather fresh to me. Both me and my mate liked the textures these possessed and that all the flavours of the vegetables were identifiable and you could see them all as you cut the burger open sort of thing. The nachos were well seasoned and the spices were delicate and subtle in the burgers and all around these were a tasty dish indeed!

      Nutritional Information Per Burger:
