      Very helpful

Lovely meal and a great side dish!

Looking for healthy but tasty foods I have found difficult of late! Not only that I want and need foods that are quick and easy to prepare because my time is taken up all the time!

My quest led me to this dish and when buying this I bought a few offerings from within this range priced at 59p a box in my local Tesco store!

      The Packaging....

Cerise pink and cream box with picture of an Asian lady on the front and a photograph of the cooked dish on the front. I'm told it is Ashoka (the manufacturer of this product) Dal Makhani 'Curried black gram in a medium hot butter sauce' and to just heat and eat and that it is made with only natural ingredients, is suitable for Vegetarians and microwavable in 2 minutes and finally the weight is stated which is 280g/10 oz. On the back of the box I'm told a bit about the dish, ingredients ad allergy advice is given, nutritional information is listed along with contact details for the manufacturer, to cook details are given and finally there is a bar-code on there.

A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Box....

Dal Makhai is the essence of every North Indian meal. This medium hot vegetarian dish with black gram beans and tomatoes blended into a thick richly spiced butter sauce, is cooked slowly to create a perfect melting taste. Ideally served as a main dish with jeera pilaf (cumin and seed rice) naan breads or chapattis. Or served as a side accompaniment to Indian meals.

      The Dish...

Well it's easy to cook! Either place the unopened pouch in a pa of boiling water for 3-5 minutes or like me bung it in the microwave in a dish (out of the pouch) for 2 minutes.

When I first opened the pouch and pushed the contents into a dish it didn't look great at all! It was a stodgy tomato smelling lumpy looking meal. In two minutes flat though it was cooked through and ready to eat, giving off a nice spicy aroma and had the consistency of a soup!

Yes it was quite runny, orangey in colour and was, well like an Indian soup really. It was lovely though and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I ate mine out of a dish and there was plenty of black very well cooked beans and red kidney beans that hadn't turned to mush or anything in a very rich, slightly buttery (though not greasy, slightly hot sauce due to the chillies in it. It was very nicely seasoned and I could detect clove, garlic and coriander in here too along with other spices I couldn't tell you what they were though but it was all very well blended indeed!

I loved the tomatoey, spicy buttery sauce and the well cooked ingredients in it. It was fairly spicy and hot but really was packed with authentic flavours! Great with rice to mop it up... I'll be definitely be buying this again!

      Allergy Advice....
