      My favourite rice

When I was a little girl I was a very fussy eater and would only eat basic foods. But, whenever I went round my grandparents' house, my grandad used to cook himself up this delicious looking curry which smelt simply divine. Never having liked either rice or curry before, he gave me a small taster to sample as it looked and smelt too nice for me to resist. Ever since then, every single time I went round to their house, my grandad would make me this same dish and still now it is one of my favourite meals.

The curry is made up of a mixture of two ingredients - one is the actual chicken curry, the other is Birds Eye's Original Vegetable Rice - the best tasting rice in the entire universe. Now, you're probably thinking that I could use any old rice, but no it has to be this one. I have tried this curry with many other types of rice, all different brands, all different styles of cooking, and none compares to this one.

It is made up of cooked rice with peas, mushrooms, onions and seasoning and contains natural flavourings of lactose and celery. These are the only ingredients so it is all completely original, natural and healthy. The rice comes frozen and the preparation instructions are to fry it in a pan with some oil, stirring occasionally, which takes a quick 5 minutes. Alternatively, it can be cooked in the microwave which takes 8 minutes. I've always preferred to fry the rice as this crisps it up very slightly and isn't as soggy as in the microwave. The addition of the vegetables gives the rice more flavour, especially the peas which add some creativity and make it that bit less plain. I don't usually like mushrooms or onions but the flavour of these it what makes this so tasty. Although I like the taste of mushrooms, it's the texture and feel of them which puts me off but the mushrooms here are very finely diced which is perfect for me or anyone else who doesn't like the rubbery feel. The onion is also very finely diced and I can hardly find them to be honest which also makes them perfect for me.

The rice comes in a large green plastic bag containing 680g worth of rice. Being Birds Eye, the pack isn't cheap costing £1.44, but this is one of those products that I can't do without so I'm always perfectly happy to pay this price. It can sometimes be found on a BOGOF or 2 for £2 offer though which makes it much better value so I stock up. 100g of rice contains only 100 calories so it's a very tasty and healthy accompaniment to any meal.

I wouldn't have this rice with meals such as sweet and sour Chinese as I wouldn't like peas with it, but with anything else, curry or just as a side dish, this will always be my favourite rice.
